the thing is you dont realize just how fragile and uncertain of your memories you really are. it's a hard concept to understand but your brain works in such a way that recalling memory causes them to become distorted over time, even to the point where you actually believe something that didnt occur based on your memory of it happening. early experiment for this was to ask people to recall childhood memories, specific to those people; many couldnt remember any specific details, and even worse was when prompted about false memories (common childhood experiences), every single person remembered them with absolute certainty even though their own parents confirmed it never happened.

I honestly wish this stuff were true, cause that would open up a lot of cool discussions and shit.
It is, however, absolute horseshit. I mean, the dash in the kit kat? Come on. All this stuff is just a lot of peoples brain filling in the same blank spaces with things they expect should fix. It happens all the time to people. The only difference here is that these just happen to be things some people had the same false memories about. Plus it's the internet age now and communication is incredibly fast.
>>
>>710295090
Why the fuck would it be tunes? It's referring to cartoons?
>>
>>710296062
exactly this. your brain is so efficient at maintaining continuity of consciousness, it can and does go against reality (what it ACTUALLY perceives) to maintain it.

Anon was explaining how false memories happen when you're a child.
You as a child believe something happened when you were a year younger. Your parents say that it didn't even though you're SURE it did. But it didn't
I'm sure some other smart anon might confirm that it happens to kids more often because their brains are growing or whatever.
>>
>>710297648
sorry i didnt word that very well, im really tired. what i mean is that an individual will believe that something happened solely based on their memory of it, even though that memory may in fact be a complete fabrication.
like they arnt technically lying to you about that memory, since they themselves are convicted about it. but that doesnt detract from the actual fact that it didnt occur.

the only reason it is such a big deal is because of the level of conviction in which people are convinced. If they would just realize that it is more than possible for this phenomenon to be explained with regular memory recall errors that accumulate over time. memory is a weird thing, your emotions during an event can very heavily impact not only how you perceive an event, but also how you categorize it in your brain, which can also lead to falsities. example of this could be you remember an argument with your parents growing up and they yelled the shit out of you, when in fact all they did was raise their voice slightly.

people read the thread. it's not that the leg changed. it's that your brain didnt file the color difference as important when you first observed c3p0. hell if you were looking at his center of mass for the whole movie in your peripheral the leg may have even been gold for you, because your brain determined "everything else is all gold, so the leg must be to". this is true until you actually pay attention to the leg and prove your brain wrong.

this is the reason optical illusions work. your attentiveness to the whole detracts from you even recognizing there are parts.

I just went back and watched the assassination video again. Can't you see why you'd have a false memory about it? It LOOKS like it's a four seat car for almost the entire thing. Your brain just filled in the memory with what you thought was going on. I mean, come on.

i could offer an explanation. basically what happens on an individual level occurred for both of you, and you both assuring yourself of it just fed the inconsistency. statistically that has to be pretty rare but if you were both equally distracted (fooling around or something), that would definitely increase the chances of you both having that similar false memory.

also it could be you are just mistaken about it being the same speech? G bush is kind of a boring speech giver, i could totally see them melding all together

the fact you're willing to admit you're not entirely sure of yourself is a good thing though anon. really what i want to emphasize is how dangerous this phenomenon can be. your brain really can trick you into believing something that is absolutely false if you allow it to.

in terms of dementia, i dont think there is a creation of memory as much as a loss of ego (self) or an actual recollection mechanism error in the brain (physiologically different brains than normal people, leading to less efficient memory recall)
>>

>>
>>710299581
see anon! you even played with this toy but because someone else or yourself didn't expressly draw attention to that inconsitency, it doesnt exist for you. but in actuality it does. your perception of it doesnt make it any less true for anyone else, except yourself and others who experienced the same thing and are willing to back you up (with only anecdotal evidence)
>>
>>710299581
And you've got nothing to back up that theory, how convenient. You may have gotten a set with 2 of the same pieces too. I thought you meant a regular lego figure, which are all gold, some with silver in the print. This is for the exact same reason that you think C3PO was always all gold - they didn't notice it.
If the mandela effect was real, wouldn't all pictures of c3po lego figures on google be with a silver leg too?
>>
>>710299912
you're falling for it friendo. the "my memory is better than everyone elses because it is mine". it's not. it never was great, it was just adequate for the function you needed it for, which never involved this silver leg, until now, when you want to argue for its existence.

>>
>>710300160

i dunno, there can be other factors which effect how your brain perceives outside stimuli, LSD being the heavy hitter.

i dont know everything, but i would definitely be able to argue against the mandela effect being more statistically probable than just false memory recall, which HAS been empirically proven.

it's like i went to a lecture recently about protein domain folding being absolute evidence for intelligent design (it was a joke to say the least). but let's say he proved intelligent design was necessary for protein functionality to exist. that in no way proves "god" exists, it just says an intelligent designer exists (he was a creationist trying to prove existence of god using science). statistically, the chances of god existing are very small compared to aliens existing, and i could easily argue even if he were successful that it's more likely an alien lifeform created organic molecules.

sorry huge tangent but i dont get a lot of threads like this

yes, i do think it's the same idea behind screen memories and mandela effect, the brain requires consistency/continuity to the point it will even alter its interpretation of perception to achieve it. They kind of work reversed in relation to each other though.
Mandela effect: memory is recalled but with an inconsistency in memory is now noticed
Screen memories: an inconsistency in reality creates a false memory.

note when i say inconsistency i really mean "when something other than the brain expects occurs".

but screen memories doesnt explain actual memory suppression, like if your dad raped you for 10 years and you dont remember it.

This needs clearing up tbh

I've always liked videos like this, POV perspective, especially with oral when her eyes are looking into the camera. Pretty sure it's cos I like imagining that's me she's doing that to, much more than from any other angle which is voyeuristic by comparison.
Then years ago someone made the argument that actually, I just liked the dick, and I got paranoid. I hate gay porn with a passion, but what if something dormant liked the D. I liked solo girl vids but nowhere near as much.
However /b/s obsession with traps cleared up any doubts. I love the female form but I find traps wrong and disgusting. If you like traps you're a faggot, but not this stuff, this is just first-person fantasy.
In fact I would argue watching porn from any other perspective is gayer, you're watching another man's dick fuck a chick, you're basically a cuck.

tl;dr POV porn is actually the straightest porn

id argue your sexuality is not nearly as concrete as you think if you were actually threatened by someone's suggestion you like dick. you can even be impressed by the inherent shape and shit. a million people could tell me im gay, that dick is fantastic, and i could spend all day on 4chan looking at dicks (and i pretty much do in passing since i scroll front page) but since it's impossible for a dick to arouse me, the very notion of being gay is laughable.

ITT easily manipulated newfags that probably also wonder all about finger boxes all day long.

Pic related. It's the original. I'll find more if you want, since ckearly other's a don't want to actually image search and disprove this. He was all gold. Fuck off.

And you anon, don't be such a sheep.

dont feel bad anon, everyone is slow at something, and fast at something else. hell my impression is super limited, i dont know that guy, but just from what i read, the context it was in, and the fact that it was completely irrelevant, it's just a little suspicious to say the least haha.
>>
>>710305981
so it's easier for you to believe in alternative realities than it is for you to believe that there is a difference between the poster and the movie? i agree that picture is all gold. that in no way detracts from the fact in the movie he had a silver leg, from the original

you need to find out what you're fast at! my best friend since 9 or so is, unfortunately, not very academically gifted, and almost dropped out of highschool, didnt ever consider college, he resigned himself to labor jobs and stuff way too early. well now that mother fucker makes 3x more money than i do as an electrical engineer, because apparently the one thing he *did* understand were those insane blueprints for electronics and stuff. he just wasnt exposed to it until so much later in his life.
find what you're good at anon, and try to make a job of it. right now i work my dream job and because of it, im so fucking satisfied i can die happy every day just based on the elation i feel from solving a problem or getting a positive result. hopefully one day everyone, but especially you, can experience this

Both legs were gold in Episode 7.
>>
>>710302844
I saw that movie a long time ago and remember "magic mirror". But it's always quoted as mirror, mirror. I distinctly remember it being magic mirror, because of the difference.
>>
>>710308100
the guy you're responding to said nothing about the legs in episode 7.
this thread just made me realize why they test for reading comprehension past highschool...

best of luck to you anon. my advice to you is don't force anything, be legitimately interested in what you are studying, or it wont pay off. i wasted 3 years of my life doing something i knew from the start i didnt want to do, but i refused to face it. learn from my mistake, don't go into something for any external reasons, as those reasons are subject to change.
hope you make it m8. i really enjoyed this thread and dont want it to die, if anyone has random biochem questions maybe i can answer them

the fact that it's named about "mandela" because people thought mandela died in prison prove it's totaly retarded and like astrology only retard are talking about this.

How stupid do you have to be to ignore in 2010 that Mandela became president of south africa in 1994 ?
