It's because of the cameras. Basically, the explosion is VERY bright. The camera has to compensate for this and turn the sensitivity way down to still be able to show everything. What you're left with, is everything that isn't the explosion being dark as fuck.

the trick is that it is a shape charge that explodes in one direction 90° to its own flying path.
so the system ejects that load direction sky, load goes boom and ejects its explosion from the top right down on the incoming rpg.
there are no shards coming for the tank and there is no mechanical force from counterexplosion on the tank, too, so everyone around is safe, except for the sound.
