Im a vegitarian but I would never be a vegan. I cant give up eggs and dairy. Most vegans look sickly and malnourished. What people in processing plants do to livestock and the conditions they live in is not natural. That's where the animal cruelty argument has its basis.
It would be cruel for a human child to be born in a prison and spend its life there in accordance with when it was going to be slaughtered for its meat, standing shoulder to shoulder, chest to back with thousands of other people in a poorly lit, poorly ventilated area which doesn't receive much maintenance from the prison staff.
Animal cruelty aside, being vegan is fundamental to environmentalism. You cannot claim to be for the environment and not be vegan.
