Not trying to be rude, but I do not understand the hate towards the cochlear implants. You can still sign with your deaf friends, but you can then talk with your hearing friends - and listen to music, and birds, and the wind, and anything else you want.
I started wearing glasses when I was 8. Went to contacts in HS. Had LASIK later on so I didn't need the contacts. Later on, I wore reading glasses when my eyes got old. I had cataract surgery when my old eyes went bad. I didn't consider the inability to see well as some gift. I used a crutch when I tore up my knee. I didn't raise a fist and yell my solidarity with the crips of the world.
