Trying to quit /b/ro here. Currently drinking Coors light. About 7 in, work in the morning. Bright side is, I've managed to cut my drinking down to Fridays and Saturdays from what was 7 days a week every week for years. At it's worst it was a handle of vodka a night every night for a few months. Summer of 15 I was down to 12-15 beers a night every night. LIke I said, down to just Fridays and Saturdays, maybe a beer or two during football season on Sunday every so often. Working on reducing the amount I drink on Fridays and Saturdays now.

No, no health problems. I played a lot of sports and ate remarkably well when I was younger. Continue to eat well and exercise almost daily so it kinda levels out. I do miss binging every day, the absolute pure ecstasy of it. The wonderful joy. It's indescribable. I was doing a lot of drugs when I was in HS and started drinking a lot more when I stopped (limited*) my drug use. I want to quit because every time I'm hungover I get so depressed I want to do nothing but lay there until I die. I'm lucky that I don't have a terribly addictive personality, but old habits definitely die hard. I hope you never get to the point I was at. There's nothing more shameful than having the schedules of the workers at all the local liquor stores memorized so the same one doesn't see you buy a handle multiple days in a row. Boozing is amazing, but please don't get to the point I was at.

He's 57. The first symptoms, other than his complete dependence on alcohol, was the yellowing of the eyes and skin, and then the swelling of the stomach.
It slowly but surely got worse, he was going in hospital every 2 week for a stomach drain, and losing more and more weight every time. He ended up just skin and bone, asleep a lot of the day.
They kept him in for 5 week as he deteriorated fast, the main issue being the toxins (ammonia) that the liver usually deals with are in his blood stream, and entering his brain causing confusion, slurred words etc.
They decided they cannot do anything, they cannot do a drain anymore because his sodium is so low he could have constant seizures, he cannot have a transplant because he's too frail, wouldn't survive the operation. But he cannot eat neither, as his stomach has swelled up.
While he was still himself he said he wanted to die at home, so they delivered a hospital bed and brought him here. It's now 05:41 here, my sister is asleep, she's up at half 6 and I'm back to sleep when she gets up. Shits tough man, but we knew it was coming.
