Well 262s were anti-bomber primarily. The allied fighters couldn't do anything to them once they were at speed. They could only hover over their landing strips and pick them off as they landed/took off. Once airborne they were untouchable.
And they were untouchable in the air because speed is everything in a fight. Speed and zoom climb dictate the parameters of a fight. Being able to turn fight in a dogfight is a romantic notion at best. If you are in a turning dogfight you are going to be picked off by the guy who isn't.
Just ask all those Zero pilots who got shot down by Hellcats and Corsairs. Oh wait, they've been dead 70 years. They can't warn you not to turn.
