They see what you post, and that's what they'll post themselves.
When I entered the arena, around 2009 or 2010, I heard about "lurk moar" as a rule of thumb, and I followed it. People said each potentially shitty thread you post, a potentially good thread gets 404'd, so you better make yours good. It took me several weeks of lurking before I posted my first reply, and it took me well over a month to make my first thread. And I made OC. I made threads that made people laugh. I made threads that made people shed a tear.
