The first confusion here is falt-Earth religious zealots put the onus on you to prove the current description of the Earth as oblate spheroidal ("round"). You don't have to. That's not your job. The evidence and explanations are available in schools, libraries, museums, from astronomers amateur and professional, on the web, and even dumb old TV. Don't do their work for those lazy sheep. Their intention has nothing to do with a quest for knowledge. They're here to find any flaw in your argument so as to convince you that you're as stupid as they are, and should believe the same crap they do. Consider this: they claim ALL space-based imagery showing a spherical Earth is manipulated, possibly because it overwhelmingly obviates the truth. They can't explain any of it away. So putting it all into one basket of lies is the easy way out.

I have unquestionable proof of the earth is a sphere. In fact, you can test it yourself I two simple steps. You'll be amazed and convinced by the results. It's simple.

Step one; go fuck yourself

The reason that's what they contest so hotly is the same reasoning behind figuring out that evolution is false, that 9/11 is an inside job that dinosaurs have been forgeries.
The official statement is falsified.
You might not agree with anything I've posted but somewhere in your life you find something that you cannot agree with and the official statement is fake.
Some folks have done some research and found out ahead of you what's been hoaxed or not.
That's not to say it's not incredibly difficult to find out the truth going on.
As for the flat earth to me the debate will never be settled.

Is the earth is round or flat?
If the world had been flat, then two sticks in different locations would produce the same shadow: But they don't. This is because the earth is round, and not flat: Eratosthenes (276-194 BCE) used this principle to calculate the circumference of the Earth quite accurately."

>As for the flat earth to me the debate will never be settled.

There is nothing to be settled. The Earth is an oblate spheroid, period. Get over it. You can have all teh conspiracy theories you want, I don't care, don't know enough about them to argue. But I *do* know astronomy and the structure of the universe. Your flat-Earth premise is juvenile make-believe crap. You're a fool to continue trying to deny it. There is no point in doing so. Go ahead and address the diagram. It's just one of many proofs.
>>707135026
Hint: there *is* a way to flex that diagram so that all arrows point south: curve the edges of the disk downward. Keep going, until it's a... sphere!

Here's the deal: there are two types of Flat Earthers: trolls, and literal Bible interpreters. Somewhat surprisingly, we usually encounter the latter on /b/. They have the freedom to make shit up (lie) because truth and understanding are not their goals, and they end the arguments with "prove me wrong." By disavowing any science put forward and continuing to make shit up, they "win" by attrition. It is simply impossible to keep up with having to explain away the barrage of the violations of the most basic principles of geometry, math, science, and logic. They aren't interested in critical thinking or putting in the requisite effort to do the science. Proofs are tossed aside, or they may not even respond when they can't fabricate anything that would pass even their own red-faced test. They are blind to 3D visualualization. They concentrate on believing what their leaders tell them, and will not allow any sense to mar their fractured perception of the universe. There is simply no arguing. It's like trying to paint over mud. You just end up with a dirty brush.

That's a petty edge lord way to look at things.
Most flat earthers are not religious they're scientists that discover things don't ad up.
The testimonies around the world should be evidence for you.
It just so happens the truth does point one way and it's always been that way.
As much as you like to make accusations it's really like your projecting everything about yourself unto others.

>also I can't say 1st hand that it's round, but given the rotation of the moon, notable through a telescope by viewing the organization of many craters, as well as the fact that planets are not always visible due to the round earth's rotation, I can deduct that the earth is likely round.
more likely than it being flat, like.. where is the earth sitting if it's flat? is it just a piece of paper with us on it inj space? is space real to you fucks? if not, whats around the earth?

>That's a petty edge lord way to look at things.
No sir - that has been my experience.

>Most flat earthers are not religious they're scientists that discover things don't ad up.
That's bullshit. No scientist thinks the way a flat-Earther does. The methodology is completely wrong and goes against every principle of practicing science.

>The testimonies around the world should be evidence for you.
*What* (credible) testimonies? I have not seen *any* arguments for a flat Earth that do not have *serious* flaws that can be explained.

>It just so happens the truth does point one way and it's always been that way.
And that is the way of a particular interpretation by a few select sects of some religions. It is not a study - it is a following of a flawed ministry.

>As much as you like to make accusations it's really like your projecting everything about yourself unto others.
Bullshit. I will happily destroy your flat-Earth arguments while you continue to spew your bullshit.

And you still haven't addressed this first argument for a round Earth:

>>
>>707138905
Actually, thsi is one point I will partially concede to flat-Earthers. Depending on the lens and angle of view (where the horizon appears in the frame), a flat horizon can be made to appear to bend up, down, or flat. Without information on focal length of the lens (and nowadays the stats of the sensor), the amount of distortion is kind of a guess.

By the same token, this image is bullshit, in that it is clear the horizon was edited after exposure as evidenced by the introduction of a fuzzy limb as you look nearer the two edges.
>>707133596

>>707133596
how would that work tho? just think about it. think about the way things are formed. think about how much less possible for a huge flat plot of land to be formed from "gravity" coupled with the fact that when we look up we see a round moon and a round sun. sure the earth "could" be round, but it doesnt make any sense to think so because the odds seem to show that it doesnt make nearly as much sense, so really youre just trying to form a conspiracy because you dont want to believe in something, and not because believe in something. you want something to dissprove.

That depends on your interpretation of "the church." I was specifically addressing the insane "literal Bible interpreters." I don't mean they literally interpret the Bible (as from other languages), I mean they take everything in the version they read (English interpretation, I guess) and accept every word literally. When the Bible refers to the "four corners of the Earth," they expect to see the Earth is square and has four corners.
>>
>>707141313
Most would. Lots of them believe some pretty ludicrous stuff, though. 6,000 year old Earth, humans can't go to space therefore moon landings were faked, etc.

Accepting a creationist worldview pretty much also forces you to believe numerous conspiracy theories which tend to center on one Satanic organization which influences the world: the Illuminati.

The majority of genuine flat-earthers (most are just trolls) believe the Illuminati are involved, and that in itself ties to a religious worldview. So most genuine flat-earthers have a religious basis for their conspiracy theory.
>>
OK, I will settle this for you people.
If you used to believe that the earth is a sphere, and now you're not so sure, then you're earth-shape-agnostic.
If you used to believe that the earth is a sphere, and now you believe it's flat, or vice versa, you're still earth-shape-agnostic.
Why? Because if you can't prove it for yourself, BY yourself, you're inevitably in a place of doubt.
There used to be things in your life that you accepted and never questioned. If you start to question them, you're obligated to prove them to yourself and leave doubt behind.
Otherwise, you'll have to enter a belief/faith system. Even if it's "science", it's faith in science, because you're believing in something you cannot see or touch.

Protestantism and Catholicism represent the big split in Christianity. There are many sects of Christianity, but in a broad sense they fall on one side of that schism or the other. They hate each other, and I've known many Protestants who genuinely don't consider Catholics to be Christian.

I would agree that on an individual basis, most Protestants seem to be more "with the times" than Catholics. They generally are more okay with gay rights and aren't as big on the whole doom and gloom and self-hatred thing.

But officially and historically, the Catholic church has accepted a lot of scientific and progressive shit that fundamentalist sects (which fall on the Protestant side of the line and often consider Catholics to be Satanic) are hard-line against.

Part of it has to do with the fact that Protestantism has either become, or in some ways always was, very centered around the Old Testament. And so while Catholics on the whole seem to be the bigger assholes, the most crazy sects of Christianity belong to the Protestant side of the line, like the Fundamentalist Creationists following Ken Ham, and the Westboro Baptist Church maniacs.

I have no doubt. I can apply geometry to all I observe and it matches the spherical Earth. I do nt accept the intrusion of stupidity into man's inventory of ideas. We will not progress as a society, culture, people, or race if we continue to allow any ideas to be treated with respect when they deserve none and run counter to our progress.

It's interesting how, for most likely the majority of humanity's existence we assumed the Earth was flat, because we had no reason to think otherwise. It is the intuitive assumption.

Then, when people actually started to observe the world around them more carefully in an attempt to understand, we gradually realized that it was round. This went against our natural intuition and so it's been contested a lot throughout history, but people have observed this since the era of antiquity. Much knowledge from that era was lost and is still lost, but we've lost and regained that knowledge multiple times.

Now in the modern era, we've escaped from Earth and even taken pictures of it from above. We've proven beyond a doubt that the Earth is round and it is now common knowledge. But now, because that information is the status quo, now those who believe in the original assumption about the Earth's shape are the rebels. They are the ones who believe they are rebelling against our natural intuition that the Earth is round, and revealing a shocking truth about the true nature of our world.

It's like they feel they're in the same position as those early scientists fighting to prove that the Earth is round to stubborn religious leaders, but instead of progressing human knowledge, they're dragging us back to before the era of antiquity.

When you take into account the behavior of space as it bends, both are correct. It's really a linguistic difference. The earth is obviously flat, because here we are standing on a plane that we define as flat. Space "bends" but only because we have to say it changes with relation to flatness. The earth is a sphere when you look at it from far away when you're not within its gravitational influence. Basically anywhere you can stand, and be "held" to a surface by gravity is truly flat. We can't really talk about this with common language. The reality from an omnipresent perspective is too different because we've always existed and developed language from right here on the surface, where the word "flat" is true.

I would guess it might have something to do with making our society like that of the ancient Greeks.

I recall watching a speech by Ken Ham (I was at a house of a creationist and apparently that's just the shit he watches for fun) where he discussed how our society resembles the Greeks', and how that makes it inherently sinful, I guess? The fact is we do take a lot of inspiration from the era of antiquity because it was highly advanced, scientifically and philosophically progressive for its time. Which of course the fundamentalist creationists hate because it goes against what they think is good and moral. If you think about it, many of the rules in the Bible (beyond the Ten Commandments) seem to be about distancing human societies in the future from the ancient Greeks.

The Greeks had a pretty relaxed and inclusive treatment of gay people. They tried to base their beliefs mostly on science and philosophy, considering human reasoning to be what would create a pinnacle of human society (rather than faith). Our government architecture takes many cues from Greek architecture. They're not wrong about the similarities, just the fact that it's a bad thing.

But the idea is that bringing us to that sinful, decadent culture, we give up faith and they ensure as many people as possible go away from God, and being a Satanic organization apparently, that's a logical goal for them to have I suppose.

So the Greeks also believed the Earth was round, because they actually figured that shit out back then because they weren't a bunch of backward religious nuts. But from the fundamentalist perspective, it's just one more way for modern western society to resemble the ancient Greek society as much as possible. Therefore, our society is as sinful and decadent and far from God.

do you know why you cant travel at the speed of light?

I hope you realize that any panoramic similar to that with the earth directly below will always result in a line. Yes even if you put a small globe below it would be a thin line. Due to the way the image is attached it is essentially taking a 360panormic image and flattening it into a rectangle. imagine panting a small circle on the bottom of a ball and then cutting one line from the top of the ball to the bottom, with that cut you would attempt to flatten the ball into a boxy shape, that circle at the bottem is now a straight line( poorly explained). Now I want you to stop being retarded but we all know that's like asking for world peace.

Easy. Go outside and put a basketball on the ground. If it doesn't roll the earth is flat. If it rolls forever then the earth is round.
>>
>>707147350
The only reason things fall is gravity. This is factual.
>>

If the sun was 93 million miles away it wouldn't create a sun spot, the whole space there should be lit up instead of a sun spot. And where is the curvature now that there isn't a fisheye lens?

Or go in a cicle because going one direction on a flat earth would seem like you are circumnavigating on a globe. Reason being? Magnetic north stays on the same point and if you keep following the same direction perpenducular to that, you goin in a circle

Density.

Alright, so, explain the sun and moon always being in the sky.
(Part 1)

heehee

>Here's evidence
Evidence of the Earth being round. Hold a shiny ball at teh same angle to a single light in the room. You'll see one patch where the bulb is reflected. This is similar to the patch where the Sun is reflected on the ocean surface.
>>
>>707147955
Prove it then.
>>
>>707147970
it's not high enough to see it
>>
>>707148017
why would that cause anything to fall?
>>
>>707148094
What would you accept as proof?
>>
>>707133596
Same distance to fly or boat around the arctic circle as it is to fly/boat around the antarctic circle.

We've explored Antarctica extensively, still no edge of earth found.

Sometimes I have a strange craving to suck a white, circumcised cock even though I'm straight.

Sunsets and sunrises in general, with changing times based on distance from equator and date.

Sometimes I can get my tongue all the way inside a girl's asshole when I'm licking it.

All of these points and more still prove the earth is flat and are universally ignored by flat earth tards.

It's not always exactly the same side of the moon, the craters move around just enough for you to witness the spinning of the moon.
But don't take my word for it, go get a telescope and verify it for yourself.
We use satellites to communicate, take pictures and broadcasting television, so yeah essentially for propaganda and measurements. That is their use, would you like to add functions?
Tell me the problem with the van allen belt and I will consider it.

These retards are just pretending right? How would a flat planet form in space? Why is it that we can observe that Earth is an oblate spheroid from space, and yet people are trying to be this dumb? If Earth is flat are other planets also flat or just ours?
>>
>>707147970
it could easily make that spot depending on how the clouds are shaped and catching the light

Curvature is obscured by all that haze.
>>
>>707147604
how is that proof. if you had a picture showing the earth from above where i could see every landmass id believe you but this is just someone at relatively low altitude taking pictures of the horizon.
>>
>>707133596
But the earth is round. Just not sphere-like. Its more of a bumpy round .
>>
>>707147763
neither have you

.. you don't exist.

sorry, bro.
>>
>>707148141
More dense objects fall. Less dense objects don't.
>>
Ok flat earthers, a question, what convinced you it's flat?
>>
>>707147763
It sort of has, actually. Not quite created, but measured.

Yeah, because of gravity

Still waiting from flat-earther. Why is there always a point on earth that the sun is visible? Same question for the moon.
>>
>>707148375
how does this prove a flat earth?

>Why is it that we can observe that Earth is an oblate spheroid from space

Oh I didn't know we had astronauts on /b/
>>
>>707148017
so, density causes an attraction that makes things fall? Right, I believe there is a word for that phenomenon, yeah... what was it again, oh right gravity. Yeah, that's what they call it.

How has this bronze age myth not been left in the past where it belongs?

> It is simply impossible to keep up with having to explain away the barrage of the violations of the most basic principles of geometry, math, science, and logic.
>>
>>707148017
what about density makes the more dense things go on the bottom? the reason they do it is because more dense things weigh more. weight is gravity.

what makes the more dense things go down?
>>
>>707148649
That's not high enough.

It never is.
