That actually makes me feel good. It's like I'm making so much money that people don't believe how much I make. But the thing is it's really not that much money. I know when I made just a few bucks an hour it seemed like a lot. But now it's really not much. The government takes a shitload and where I live the cost of living is high.

It's a chill job and a great workplace. Myself and 3 others do interviews ourselves to decide who we want in our department so we can choose chill but driven people to join our team

Oh yeah. You have to be good, but it's not as hopeless as people make it out to be. I went to school for music first and then got a graduate degree in statistics because I was very interested in both and too scared/had too much debt to try music alone. If I weren't weighed down by student loans and would have done music full-time I would probably be making around 80-90k a year with it. Not nearly as much as I'm making now but a decent living.

I'm the opera singer, that guy isn't me. My wife is a manager at a PR firm.

BTW, music really isn't that hard to break into. People get discouraged because for every "yes" that comes out of auditions, you can bet that individual went through 100 "no's." Perseverance and dedication are key, but most people don't have the financial resources to give it 100%. You also have to realize that just like any career, you have to start somewhere and build. Musicians are essentially starting their own business.
>>
>>707143188
Yeah, but you can do all those things and still never make it like the majority of musicians. Gotta know somebody, I haven't applied for anything without an inside track in years, it's dumb. Major auditions will have like 12+ people who can do the job, it's what you've done to rise to the top of that pack outside of the aud. And I think the networking and schmoozing is the part a lot of people miss or just can't do.
