My take on it is that the word "better" is what the problem is with this argument. It is subjective. For the oldfags like me it was better then. For the newfags it is better now. Us oldfags liked the social upheaval that came with raids and posting shock images. You newfags like cocks and things which are more autist-friendly. I wouldn't charactarize that as good or bad, it is just the natural evolution of a website that brought too much attention to itself. The social threats had to move to another location, and all the kids who wanted to be socially relevant moved in to fill the void in an attempt to capture some of that. It never works out that way of course, but it makes you feel good about yourselves for a change. I have no problem with that.
So instead of saying "better" just say "different". Because that is what /b/ has always been about.

They don't realize how RL connects to internet or how internet connects to RL. They don't see infinite possibilities that both of them, together and separately, offer. To think in broader perspective and to experiment, actively searching for more... That way one can find home. I still come here as I know there's occasionally good stuff happening. You usually regocnize old fags by their style, not by face, nick or name. In that sense there are still old dwellers lurking and occasionally posting, so I consider this one of my homes. But there are other homes, IRL, net and DW too. Now I go back lurking, see you around again, somewhere.
