Almost any dog of any breed can be an amazing companion. But some seem to be worse than others. Mist dogs are pretty smart. I compare it to having a child. But like most children people dont train their dogs well and they run around like spoiled obnoxious little pricks and everyone hates your dog and you. Also when picking a pup always go for the shy quiet ones that keep to themselves. They will be the most loyal and are usually the most trainable. Imo kelpie breed is the ultimate dog. I beg to differ, we picked the most dominant dog out of the nest and he was very trainable, you just gotta keep him busy (at least when he was young). Meanwhile some of the quieter brothers and sisters are very shy, always following their owner close, scared of everything, don't wanna be left alone etc.

If you pick a breed of dog, like a mastiff, that rather fight than flee, then you're in trouble.
You are better off picking the dominant dog that has a lot of confidence. They don't scare as easily and will stay calm.
Dogs that are afraid and shy are not to be trusted.
But if you pick a breed like a Whippet or whatever it then I guess it doesn't matter, they won't be aggressive.
They'll just run away and hide under a table when someone breaks in.

Just my experience. Any dog my family had was picked on that basis and they all turned out pretty good. Our kelpie was definitely aggressive when provoked but all it took was to tell her to go lay down and that was the end of it. But we are also country folk so most people have the common sense to not fuck with any dog until you get familiar with each other. Especially dont fuck with a dog in the back of a truck round these parts. We had to put him down last year because he was in pain every day. His hips were giving out. He was allergic to all available medicine to help him. He was 12. We were with him right Until the end. It was the the most heart wrenching moment of my life
He was loved and left a tremendous hole in our family. He was our ring bearer. He was loyal and obedient with a great goofy/dopey personality.
I miss him so much. I miss how he would do this silly grunt/whine noise as a means to ask to come up on the bed. I even miss how he'd get underfoot while I was cooking dinner because he LOVED that I gave him the tips of the carrots. I'd trip over him, but at least he was still here. Sometimes out of the blue we'd shout "who's there?!" just to hear him bark at the invisible intruder.
Dogs like him are more than accessories or companions. They're family. There's a connection with them so strong you act as a single unit together.
