Just traded in my M&P Shield for a Glock 43 and couldn't be happier. What are your thoughts /b/? Not trying to start a big CCW debate, just curious
>>
Fuck off to /k/ with that shit

I carry a Sig P320C, good gun. Glad you finally got a carry piece you like, you may depend your life on it one day.
>>
I've got an M&P vtac and I absolutely love it. Dem sights, dat tan finish.
>>
>>706368994
XD-S is objectively better than either.
>>
>>706369979
I've got the exact same Sig in the FDE model. Its my favorite gun I have bought to this date and my first pistole ever bought in fact. The ergonomics are insane
>>
>>706368994
mad because I bought a 42 and was like "wow if only they would make a 9mm version of this"

Then they released the 43 2 weeks later.
>>
>>706371001
Yeah in my opinion the .40 is a little too much for me. Way better shot with the 9mm

>>
>>706371511
Oh don't be a faggot. Who actually has all the Glock models memorized? They aren't even good guns.
>>
>>706372017
They are *good* guns for the money. Obviously they aren't the best if you have the money to spend more. The sky is the limit with guns but for reliability they are more than worth their money.
>>
>>706372017
No gunz is digging the hole deeper
>>
bought an M&P 9. It sucked out of the box shooting 12" low. Sent it to S&W and they said nothing was wrong with it even though they didn't send back any test firing paper so they lied. Seeing how bad their CS was I sold it to a gun shop and bought a Ruger SR9 which put the M&P to shame. I was so impressed with the Ruger I bought an LC9s (striker fire) for my carry. It's a great little gun with one of the sweetest stock triggers I've ever seen.
>>
>>706368994

43? Why not go with the 19?
>>
>>706373037
why not go with the m249?
>>
I have 17 guns. 3 handguns. 5 blackpowder handguns and long guns, the remaining are 22, shotguns and hunting rifles. I have no automatic weapons. I have purchased all these weapons at authorized gun dealers, had background checks on all that required it. I do not carry a weapon out my home for protection. My weapons leave my house only for hunting or sports shooting.

You've successfully raised the odds of suicide and accidental injury and death in your household.

Congratulations.
>>
I have a XDM .40 by Springfield. It's a 4.5inch barrel, 16 mag beast. It's obviously not for carry, but it's a home defense weapon as I live in one of the most dangerous cities in the US. It's a nice gun, but in chambered in .40 means it has a hell of a kick. Would probably prefer it in 9mm

more than 9mm yes but not 'omg it ripped off my arm' more. you either need more practice, different ammo or just make the switch to 9mm. a defense gun does you no good if you cant use it properly. I have a XD-40 4" and love it, though I will probably sell/trade it towards a XD-M sometime

if you have a job that more or less requires a shoulder holster then you dont have a choice.
Im a forklift driver, i tried CCW on the waste, but I couldnt make it work. Switched to a shoulder holster for my G19 and couldnt be happier. I also feel badass with a shoulder holster, just feels like im permanently knee deep in pussy.

that being said your right, polymer hip holsters are the only way.

>also considering getting a G43 for ankle carry
>>
>>706376138

that galco IWB holster is actually very comfortable and conceals my glock 19 well.. i'm a lean 185 lbs so a glock 19 isn't as easy to conceal as a sub-compact.

if you spend a lot of time sitting down, a shoulder holster is excellent, but is also harder to conceal if you're lean unless you wear much more loose fitting shirts. i have a galco jackass shoulder rig i wear once the weather gets cooler and it's great as well.

I'm a poorfag, so my carry is a Taurus P211 Gen 2.

Yeah yeah, I know,
>taurus

Their build quality went up drastically after that shitty pistol that fired when it was shaken. For $300 out the door I have a subcompact 9mm with 12+1 rounds of +p ammo.

To be fair, I had enough for a Glock subcompact, but I have fairly large hands and the subcompact glocks (forget the model) were too small for me. My pinky wrapped around the bottom of the mag and I didn't want to look like a faggy frenchman drinking a cup of tea.

Yes, at first its a real bitch to get it to catch. Like most guns, you have to break it in, clean it from the factory oil, and just abuse it a little. After firing 300 or 500 rounds from it, the slide locked back no problem.

The real bitch is to disconnect the slide from the gun. That doesn't seem to budge no matter how many times I do it

i carry a single stack about the exactly same size as the 43 everyday iwb and im also getting in and out of vehicles all day and i have no issues at all. put it in a decent holster like a crossbreed mini tuck and carry it at 3-5 o clock and you wont even know it's there until you need it and you easily draw it and kill a rampaging tyrone. 43 is small for a reason, it is meant to be concealed iwb. you are clearly skeptical but 100000s of people who CCW daily know it to be true. im not trying to be a dick, just sharing some personal experience.

The reason they're harder to get is because historically concealed weapons were shunned as nefarious back when weapons were commonly carried openly.

The movement to legalize concealed carry handguns in the US is very recent.

no, i know IWB works. it just doesnt work for me.

When im not climbing in and out of my lift, im pushing up pipe thats on my forks to bundle it. i use a combination of hips and hands to push the pipe up unto itself into a bundle. Then i hold it with my hips while i ratchet down the strap.

so you can see that anything on the waste dont really work besides behind the back, which is out for obvious reasons. i tried wearing it at about 4:30 but I would have to readjust it everytime i went to make a bundle. it was super obvious. kinda defeated the whole concept of ccw

Ok i see what you mean. When I was in college i worked at a mine during the summer and drove the forklift pretty much every day for the warehouse, moved LOTS of pipes so i know exactly what you mean. got my left middle finger pretty much amputated by a piece of 4" PVC when it got caught between it, the pipe and the forkilft fork. ankle is better than nothing, but i'd probably go for a G26 over the 43 for it.

fire arms are tools that can hurt anybody, just like knives, hammers screwdrivers. theyre just really good at what they do. more people die from cars and niggers than firearms.

To the entire thread

Im new to guns. Now i already have a few items picked out, i dont need a recommendation. My question is this:

Ive seldomly fired a gun in my childhood, maybe 6 times, and only got a chance to fire a range of guns at the range for a single day. At 25, how hard will it be to become an adequate shot with either a revolver or 1911?
>>
>>706381028
Actually it does, there are millions and millions of them
>>
>>706381341
You don't become a good shot in one range session. Practice over time. Join a club or something, or just shoot on your own.
If you're going to depend your life on a gun, know how to use it and use it well
>>
>>706380839
40. Blame the site lol
>>
>>706381341
I became a decent shot in 2 years with practice at least twice a month. There are simple tips that once are mastered, you only improve from there such as sight alignment, trigger pull, and breathing.
>>
>>706381341
Might want to start with a 9mm as well til you get used to shooting
>>
>>706381341
adequate for what? everyone learns differently but the only way to get good is practice, the basics are pretty easy concepts but you still have to translate them into actual mind-hand-eye coordination. and the skills you do learn go away if you dont keep using them.
>>
>>706381625
>>706381649
Thanks for the input. I have a gunshop with range near me, and with everything going on in the world, id like to become an accurate shooter, on the chance i need to be one. Would a weekly trip to practice be good or should it be more often

Also,.i do plan on taking a few gun classes for ccw purposes

Weekly is pretty good. Take some actual classes though so you learn proper form and things and don't develop bad habbits

And don't just stand in one spot and fire at paper, practice drills and shit if you can
>>
>>706381947
obviously you cant learn to shoot over the internet, but grip. grip and sight picture. focus on those two things and youll b fine.

youre holding a thing that explodes in your hands, so you need to grip it so that explosion doesnt fuck up where you want the bullet to go.
>>
>>706373504
Guns are like knives.

They are only dangerous when the user is a faggot.
>>
>>706381874
Well, adequate enough to be able to shoot accurately and quick enough. Im not trying to be a faggot here, in my other post i said i do plan on practicing and taking classes, i was merely asking how long it might take. Im going to keep working at it no matter what, but at the same time id like to know if i am fucked cause im starting so late in.life

You have to work at it for a while. Especially with handguns, it is much more difficult to learn to shoot handguns effectively than long guns
Basically it just takes thousands of rounds.
Ideally start with a .22, but a 9mm will do. It wouldn't be impossible with something bigger, but it would be more difficult and expensive.
I love revolvers, but .38 is also notably more expensive to shoot than 9mm
>>
I usually awp but if there's another awper on the team I'm good with the m4
>>
>>706382203
For the drills, i may have to go out of state, illinois is behind the curve on guns. Just look at chicago, ive live there all my life and gunplay is rampant, despite guns being harder to get than a virgin sacrifice
>>
>>706382288
luckily you can teach old dogs new tricks, dont listen to the naysayers
>>
>>706382203
It's particularly great to do a class too, because often you'll get to do shit you would never get to otherwise.
I did a dynamic handgun course a while back, and we got to do a whole bunch of drills (moving and firing, contact shooting, shooting from retention, etc.) that otherwise I'd never be allowed to do at the range

>.22, but a 9mm will do
true. i basically learned to shoot handguns with a full size 40sw when I was 21, i had shot a P22 a few times before but not much. cant ever go wrong with having something in 22lr, well unless it's soccer mom sav da cheldruns!!1! time and 22 ammo is rarer than gold
>>
>>706382292
The guns in looking at are all over 9mm. Taurus 357 and 44 i both fired and an armscor 1911 45. I loved the grip feel of both, and while the recoil was obnoxious on the taurus guns, i liked it, and didnt find it unmanageable.

I have huge hands, basketball hands, so the smaller guns i tried were horrid to.shoot

.22lr pistol is great to get trigger time and really ingrain fundamentals. but i had no problem starting out with 9mm / glock 19 either.. it's just more expensive.
>>
>>706377447
I still carry hydrashoks in some spare mags. Nothing wrong with it. Great ammo imo

>>706382947
In a revolver, you'd most likely want to stick with a .357 so that you can shoot .38, which is a good round for learning (mild recoil). However it is still much more expensive. If you can afford it, sure, but keep in mind that you will be going through thousands of rounds. It will get expensive fast.
.45 likewise is an expensive caliber to shoot, and less forgiving to learn on (though not horrible).
Plenty of large-framed 9mms exist that you should be able to find one to fit you. If you know you like the 1911 also, plenty of companies make 1911s in 9mm. Worth noting that a 1911 isn't necessarily the best thing to start with. I mean it wouldn't be horrible, but they are more finicky, and more complicated to maintain (disassembly and reassembly can be a pain, it's very easy to accidentally scratch the gun trying to force the slide stop back in place)

>>
>>706383216

yupp, same here, and i'm the anon who was originally getting hassled, lol.. another benefit is that i've put several hundred rounds of it through my g19 so i know it cycles reliably.. it costs a good bit of cash to put several hundred rounds of self defense ammo through your pistol, so you can know for sure it will cycle 100% .. but if you're serious about it, that's the only way. i like the 147 grain hydrashoks and the 150 grain hst micro is an excellent round for smaller pistols imo.. perfect for a glock 26 / 43 / mp shield etc..
>>
>>706382947
Oh and also, I'd probably avoid Taurus.
I think they may be improving now, but they have had many QC issues over the years with all manner of guns. Some revolvers they made were liable to shoot the barrel off at a relatively low round count because it was being torqued incorrectly at the factory, for instance

>>
>>706383490
I feel what you mean, but money isnt going to be an issue. As bad as this sounds, itll be the money i spend as a hobby. Like someone may have cars, ill be putting my money into my gun.

Also,.im just going off what fit my hands at the shop i went to. I know the owner so he went above and beyond to help me out.

I will look into a full frame 9mm though. Wont hurt to be able to use a variety of calibers

Not something you'd be likely to encounter, but these were the guns Taurus was selling to police in Brazil
>>706383996
S&W and Ruger are the main choices. Both are excellent, it's mostly subjective which you prefer. Colt used to be one of the top choices, but they stopped making revolvers (apart from SAA clones) many years back and pretty much all their old revolvers command a serious premium. Pretty much everybody else is much smaller, those account for the vast majority of revolvers in the US honestly

Well, then, lets get down to brass tacks. In the US there are a lot of us. We spend a lot of money on lobbying. We march. We make calls. We send letters and e-mails. We vote. We are the single loudest, most visible, most easily annoyed bloc of voters in the history of this nation. Responsible or not, we've largely won the battle. It is politically necessary for Hillary Clinton to say that she believes the Second Amendment refers to an individual right to keep weapons for the express purpose of self defense and that she does not want to take your handguns. It wasn't that long ago that handgun bans were the wave of the future. Hell, Obama trotted out the parents of dead first graders and couldn't get a vote on a federal magazine capacity ban.

Pack it in. You're done.
