Not lying, actually.

Got the job straight out of high school at a fairly decent hardware firm that my brother was already employed at. He essentially greased up the entry process well enough that my lack of degree was more or less overlooked.

I'm mostly programming user interfaces for the hardware being sold there, which is fairly neat. Gives the whole thing an artistic and creative side to things. That being said, I also flunked two art classes between grades six and twelve, so things are generally looking more 'minimalistic'.

But yeah! That's me. It's... interesting. Not really sure what to do with all the money. Just got the GTX 1080, might go ahead and go for a quad-monitor display soon or some crazy shit.

If you are telling the truth and you say you don't know what to do with all that money at your age allow me to tell you.
Invest a good amount into a long CD (Certificate of Deposit) let it mature.
Buy gold and keep it in a safety deposit box.
Buy some stocks.
Establish credit start small $500 credit line on a card spend only on gas grocerys pay on time dont be stupid.

Save some hard cash in a savings account live below your means.
Make the goal for doing all of this to be buying a decent house.
Dont lease a car dont fucking lease anything.
Dont buy a car from a lot but a good work car private sales.

Thank me when you are 30 years old with your own house paid off and have a mill to your name

Not impulsively spending isn't hard to condition to.
Hes 18 he can do everything you just said at 30 which isn't old if keeps that job and follows the advice.
If he decides to have a family its covered financially. If not no biggie if he dies his lineage can do with it whatever they want.

I work in tech (Senior Cloud Architect), and also do skill analysis for people getting hired so sitting in 2nd/3rd interviews.

And I promise you nowhere do entry level devs or sysadmins make 80k+. I regularly get scouted by USA based tech companies and the salaries range from 150-180 a year, so I know in the US people in tech jobs earn more than here in Europe (making around 100k a year now ex. bonuses) but not THAT much more.

So I agree with the other dude and call bs.

I worked in SV for 10 years. When I left, entry level devs at my company (and other big companies in the area) were getting 115-125k + signing bonus + stock grant + yearly bonuses. There are a lot of areas of the country where COL is high, and salaries there reflect that.

I'm not sure what's good or bad in greece honestly but I'll take your word for it. I know in the US you would make equivalent to around 10,000 euros/month.

But your cost of living for a 1 bedroom apartment in an area that you would make that much would be close to 5,000 euro/month just for rent.
