Find a GOOD inked with years (at least 10) of experience. Ask to see previous work, especially if they have done scar ink. Ask what they think. Thick, heavy, scarring can be a real bitch and have to keep in mind it might not go well. Listen to what your heart tells you as well.
Hell, I've got quite a few scars. Nothing big surface area wise, but I'd never get them inked. Its part of who you are and tells a story about you already. Why try and rewrite that story?

They do. It's also why a lot of artists will flat out tell you "no" if the design is too small yet you still want it black and white. The good ones, at least. The design will look nothing like that a few years down the line. It'll all blend together. I had 4 different artists tell me that when I got my first tattoo, until one of them sat me down and explained to me why the design wouldn't work long term.
