I have emptied about 8 air conditioning units of their freon to huff at my old apartment complex because the hallucinations were amazing and realistic. How expensive is this? Sometimes they wouldnt know the issue until I told them maybe it needed more freon (called in the free repair guy a few times mysef and just acted like it was someone else getting away with it)
How common is it to find units that have been tampered with for huffing?
Never got caught though I think I almost froze my lungs a few times.

Please reply to me. Yeah everytime id empty my own unit and fuck my AC up the repair guy would never fix it until i mentioned it needed more freon. They would do a bunch of shit and not be able to figure it without my suggestion except maybe once or twice.

Please reply to me I wanna how expensive freon is and if you've ever had experience fixing any units you could tell had been tampered with by someone huffing?
Havent done it in over a year and am glad I didnt fucking die

Not op but i'm also a tech. it's a Guage Manifold set. It tells you the pressure of the refrigerant(freon) inside the unit to see if it has the correct charge.
>>
>>704537701
Seriously? Id just hold it in and have full blown entity contanct that I could interact with... all of sort of inexplainable but awesome shit.
I would also find a way to get all the freon to sink to the bottom of the bag and almost crystalize in a sense but evaporate as soon as it hit the bottom. Its so hard to explain... But I was making bags of it last forever blowing it back in then waiting for it to expand. If i wasnt careful though it get really hot and melt through the bag as it came out the top burnt my hands a few times doing that...
>>

either it needs overhauling or very old unit thus bad alignment causing noise
>>
It kind of smells like gas when i turn the AC on its one of the big air conditioners whats wrong with it?
>>
>>704538145
Maybe I was just hallucinating like crazy but I swear I had the shit crystalizing and evaporating after blowing back in the first hit. I would also kind of blow on the bottom of the bag to cool it when it started expanding too much...
Can the stuff even crystalize and then evaporate depending on temperature and pressure? It would start out cold as fucking ice then got melting fucking hot after I started recycling hits.

What else could it have been?
>>
>>704538888
Nice digits dude
>>
>>704538178
A lot of the CFCs and HCFCs are not being used anymore however HCFC-22 is most definitely freon and it's being used currently in many units at least until it's complete phase out in 2020. Also it's not all called freon because different companies market it under different names. And forgive me it's 4am where I am
>>
>>704538888
Freon was a trade name Dupont used years ago, but it is banned now. It is called refrigerant, not Freon and huffing it won't do anything. It is dangerous to inhale if it just came out of a system as it is mixed with oil as a mist, but other than that, if it is a vapor wont do jack...just displace oxygen.
>>
Is it worth having one of these in your house? Have you seen any more efficient ways to keep your house cool, that are cheaper?
>>
>>704536419
go to bed andrew, you have work tomorrow
>>
>>704539380
Refrigerant mixed with an oil. You're a fuckin' idiot.

Then explain why having oil in the lines is a bad thing.
>>
sorry guys I gotta get back to work, will answer all questions if thread is alive when I get home,or I'll probably just make a new one in about 3 hours
>>
>>704539378
Sorry I guess some old units could still have it....but I don't work on old shit so thought it was gone.
>>
>>704539502
Because if theres oil during the installation, there is likely air in there too. And if theres ail, theres moisture. And moisture freezes and fucks up the pipes.
>>
>>704539502
It's not bad at all. The oil is what helps the parts in the compressor move and the refrigerant is what moves the oil. What's bad is when there are non condensables(moisture and dirt)in the lines. We all know that moisture and oil don't mix.
>>
i moved to texas from the northeast and my air is running constantly. now some kind of gross black goo is on the vents and i clean it off. is this a thing? is it actually black mold?
>>
>>704539806
Nigger say what? There has to be oil or the compressor would seize up
>>
>>704537287
Freon displaces oxygen. You were potentially suffocating. The only way you could have inhaled it is in gas form from the high pressure side and because this, the gas is hot, there is no way you could have even come close to freezing your lungs. Get the facts before you troll.
>>
>>704539849
The a/c is telling go back home Yankee
>>
>>704539832
true idiot. Oil in lines is bad, because if it gets to through the system, it goes to compressor side, and is non compressible. Basic refrig 101. That's why there is a filter
>>
>>704540340
op here, actually they can,r22 liquid form could cause frostbite
>>
>>704539849
Do you change the filter every 3 months?
>>
>>704540536
Ok I get it now....you're just trolling...or retarded.
Oil circulates as a mist and does come back to the compressor as a mist, and does get compressed. The filter is just a desiccant to absorb moisture and trap any foreign particles.
>>
>>704540806
yes
>>
>>704540806
op here,it's wet dust actually, the aircond has to sucks in air to push out air together with refrigerated gas so everything inside the air around the aircond would get sucked in,including dust
>>
Do you work on refers or ice machines at all? And do you use a lot of nitrogen when brazing?
>>
>>704541113
only air conditioning im afraid, might expand into that field sooner or later
>>
>>704540565
No shit op. I'm talking about the gas form. He never would have gotten liquid r22 past his lips. I hope you never work on my shit...
>>
>>704541101
You're not the OP, but 2/10 for trying
>>
>>704540536
Oil and refrigerant mix and the refrigerant carries the oil through the system. Efficient compressors are designed to handle a reasonable quantity of liquid oil. If not the oil falls to the crankcase of the compressor.
>>
>>704537659
You don't adjust it, it's a measurement
>>
>>704536741
new units are usually inverter units, they use r410a gas rather than conventional r22 gas and are more eco friendly, also inverters balance power intake so it's less taxing on your electricity bills, although compensated by more expensive maintenance because having the need to vacuum any air out of pipes everytime any pipework is involved
>>
>>704541178
Do you use nitrogen alot?
>>
>>704541287
Okay just wondered....I'm a reefer tech and we can adjust it, by adjusting the TXV
>>

It doesn't matter what refrigerant you run. You should always put a vacuum on the system if you open it to the atmosphere.

>>
>>704542199
It sounds complex yet it's a very simple process. Very similar to how your sweat cools your skin.
>>
>>704541968
the only reason people vacuum aircond is either because they had to braze a leaking copper tubing OR the compressor runs r410a gas which is consisted of 2 types of gas forming r410a and must always be 50/50 balance that not even 1% of oxygen can mix in

>>
>>704537655

>>
>>704542927
it's about 50% of that and 50% of serious work, pay is okay 2-3k depending on rank
>>
>>704542933
only change a new capacitor if it's damaged or...when I need a couple extra bucks
>>
>>704541076
Not op but with your air constantly on it's possible that there is condensate forming on/in your ductwork due to temperature difference causing leaks. And moisture definitely leads to black mold. However, without looking at it and your ductwork it would be impossible for me to tell.

Should I care about what insulation ducting we use?
Where should the internal unit be placed? Current spec is wardrobe of spare bedroom is that OK?? Is it loud as fuck?
>>
>>704549127
You might need to pull the outdoor disconnect, you could have a compressor trip and you will need to clean the condenser. OR if the indoor fan does not come on you could have a bad supply motor or capacitor. Really it can be a list of different things. First, I would set the thermostat to "fan" mode and wait if it comes on. If it does then the capacitor/motor issue isnt the problem. If it does come on and its not getting cool, go outside and feel the air coming off the condensing unit. If its hot, you're good to go if no fan is running you could have to pull the disconnect and clean the condenser and reset the safety on one of the lines.
>>
>>704549127
You need check the safety switch on the furnace door. Its put their to keep people from getting shocked. Its a small black switch that pushes in. Take the door off and hold the button down. If you have an electronic board, the led shouldnlight uo and give you a fault code. The service door will have a number system that correlates to the fault.
>also ac tech
>>
>>704549256
Damn how big is the house if you need a condensing unit that size?

Also Duct is important but Im not a duct guy persay, you might want to talk to an air balancer but I can say you do not want the non insulated duct, also avoid the accordion style duct because must people have a hard time sizing it and tend to leave long loops that drop static pressure to the vent.

>>704549127
>>704549797
Also may want to see if the 5amp fuse is good. If you have a lit-up board with lights, then you have low voltage. Next you would need a multimeter to check for a 24v call from the tstat.

Live in Aus in area with no gas. Is like 0 in Winter and 40 in Summer (Celsius). Seemed better than split systems and BSing.

Will have Solar as well so free to run in Summer at least.
>>
>>704549562
op here and this tip works...temporarily,but if the compressor does overheat then check the coil,it might be dirty thus causing the unit to overheat, that or overcharging gas above 80 by R22 standards or 170 by r410a standards
>>
>>704542323
you pressurize the system with nitro to find any leaks after brazing. then discharge the system, vacuum, open king valves, diagnose a overcharge or undercharge unit and add or take refridgerant until 9 pressure split. usually a 17-21 degree split inside a well tuned system.
>>
>>704549973
this is why a/c break down all the time,if the fan or the compressor is running fine the capacitor is fine, change it if you want you're only gonna waste 10 dollars with the machine continuing to be overheated
>>
>>704550286
gas is probably below 50 in R22 standards, that or it's dirty,if it's not then charge in gas to about 65-70,you should know this if you took half a semester
>>
>>704549562
thanks man
>>
>>704550462
correct. if the condenser turns on and is running for a short amount of time then it is not a capacitor. you can run your hose on the top of the condenser over the motor and see if it stays on for longer. could be a motor

you can if you know how to properly bend a copper, install indoor outdoor unit with proper level balance so it won't slant, proper flaring/opening of aircond pipes to connect the outdoor, tools such as a heavy duty drill, the copper tubes itself with knowledge to install different sizes ranging from 2/8 to 6/8,PVC pipes, ability to identify china-made wires and 100% copper wires and the wires itself, proper insulation size and the list goes on,if you know what i'm talking about above you're good to go as they're the basics

>>704554393

tldr: If you're used to anything like this doing work around the house and aren't worried about wasting some money on a few potential fuck ups and new tools to make sure you do right then go ahead. The worst thing about doing it yourself is that you basically void your warrantyon the unit if anything goes wrong. The only critical parts are a properly bent tube, tight wiring, level unit and hole in wall. It's just a lot of steps with simple techniques.
>>
>>704554393
you'll need a drill,screwdriver,5-8 wall plugs and equal amounts of screw, copper pipes depending on a/c HP or TON,pvc pipes, insulations, incoming supply wire and outgoing compressor wire, calculate the wall bracket to a proper water level then start drilling according to bracket holes, put in wall plugs, measure where the hole will be for the copper/pvc to go out of,start drilling, mount indoor unit and connect supply and outgoing wire then pull outgoing copper pvc out to the hole, leave the rest to them or just finish up what's left after that as the outdoor unit takes less work than indoor, albeit heavier work

Guys help I was at a party a few days ago and there was a small butane tube for reloading gas lighters. I remember in middle school we sometimes bought a large butane tube and went in a park to get high on it. I don't remember being a strong high or whatever and I wanted to try again. I only inhaled a little bit like a small puff then I looked at the tube and there was "CFC" written on it I think. I knew in my inebriated state that that has to do with freon or smth so now google confirmed it. I also remember my upper right part of the lung started to hurt but I thought it was from smoking. Am I gonna die at 50?

The only effect refrigerant has is oxygen displacement. There's no point in huffing it. You'd do just as well putting a plastic bag over your head.

says the fucking idiot who has no clue how refrigeration systems work. google it nigger and get a clue before you spout off bullshit you know nothing about
>>
>>704556276
it is slightly unhealthy as it dries up the air humidity, not sure how and why this would affect health>>704556311
it's actually better if the weather is cold for the a/c,as long as the cold doesn't freeze the coil or ic board
>>
>>704537659
The same way you adjust superheat on any other brand. Depends on the type of metering device. (Not OP btw)
>>
>>704537844
Modern r-134 systems don't spin the compressor fast enough at idle so the cooling is much less. If it's not cooling at all at idle either you have a low refrigerant charge, or the switch that bumps up your radiator fan speed when the AC is on isn't working so it's not condensing properly.
>>
>>704554201

the coil is dirty look at all that fucking dust buildup, I bet the blower wheel is caked in dust as well. that fucking dust on the coils will act an as insulator and also block the airflow

disgusting shit

OP here, there ARE oil in the pipes, the oils are liquid states of either R22 or R410A refrigerant gases,i decided to let this topic run its course as it gave me keks but it's time to end this pointless debate, the oil is the result of the gases reaching room temperature and becoming liquid state, touching these liquid as they try to reach temperature would result in frostbite
>>
>>704537844

when the evaporator coil reaches a certain temp the compressor shuts off, its to protect it from freezing and damaging the compressor
>>
>>704557075
try to reach room temperature*,e.g touching them as they're expelled from the nipple of the valve

>>704556921
his coil looks fine from here,a closer shot might be clearer to how dirty it is,the white spots are results of bent coils
