Movies that you thought were great but everybody thought were meh
>>704283276
Waterworld IS great. I went to Universal Studios for the first time recently and watched the Waterworld show. It even made my GF want to watch it and we both agreed its a good movie.
>>704283499
I recently watched this, and an hour or so in, I had no idea what was going on. That is the problem with the most recent bond films, they take themselves way too seriously. The old ones were so much better since they were so camp and generally fun.
>>704283648
I think its one of those movies that became better over time. it might of been not what people wanted at the time
>>704283499
Made me want to puke
Isn't even a bond anymore, it's just bourne
Prometheus .. Not as good as the Alien films but still thought was great and loved it.... Anyone else like it???
>>704283276
Escape from New York, and LA
>>704283865
It holds up pretty well and I'd watch it over most of the garbage being produced these days.
>>704283276
Warcraft
>>704284035
Those are both great.
>>704284106
Was this the most recent one? With Jane Levy? Because I fucking love that bitch
>>704284106
Even though it wasn't in the Raimi style I think the reboot was great
>>704284193
I know, right? Escape from LA was a love letter to trashy action flicks, why did everyone hate it?
I'm not even a big xmen fan but i love how they brought the new and old films together. plus theres no big bad guy, its more complicated than just that
>>704284034
I did. My only big gripe was that they tried SUPER HARD to make Charlize Theron's character a bad guy just because she wasn't nice, when she was clearly a good captain that had to make hard decisions.
>>704284309
What this was like the highest acclaimed of the three.
>>704284034
I watched it and it was... meh.
What was with that end scene anyways?
>everyone dies due to pissed off designers that want to erase earth
>let's go to the place where more of these designers are like
>"hi, we're the bastards you wanted dead, there's our planet - enslave us, kill us, i don't give a fuck."
>>704284203
yeah the modern one. i still love the originals but as a modern horror film i think its class
>>704284248
agreed
>>704284034
Saw Aliens 1/2 after Prometheus. They were all okay.
>>704284390
i think its the best out of all the xmen movies with deadpool being second
I really enjoyed this one
>>704283276
>>704284536
I can't remember the older ones and if they were any good. But I agree with this.
I dont like love stories but i love this
>>704284574
Those gay scenes were the best
>>704283857
completely disagree with you on this. the camp got old, the new gen of bond films is better.
>>704284035
If they were to do a remake and give this shit a bigger budget I bet they could have a kick-ass movie on their hands.
Or a Mad Max knockoff, either one
>>704284715
>this guy, i don't even know his name, but in literally every movie he plays the same socially awkward faggot, i want to punch him so hard for making money off shit like this
>>704283276
Speaking of Kevin Costner
I loved this movie, but everyone I've spoken to seems to regard it as absolute shit.
>>704284762
Maybe, if it gets done right. Skyfall was great, but Casino Royale, Spectre and Quantum of Solace were all just a bit boring
>>704284867
yeah but have you seen this film? yeah he acts like that but also creates a social ego where hes the complete opposite which is great to see
>>704284087
Oh god, no. You can fuck right off out of here with that nonsense
>>704284993
>When Mads was the only good villain. CR>>>others
This was much better than the shitty john Travolta version
>>704283276
That movie was the shit. Watching the skit at universal studios was awesome too.
>>704285000
no, and i don't think i will
i just hate this guy too much
>>704284715
Ugh god!
I just remember cringing the whole time
>>704284283
I think people assumed it was doing that with a straight face.
>>704285125
agreed. wish i saw it in cinemas. didnt it bomb?
>>704285114
Daredevil Punisher is best Punisher.
>>704285255
oh yeah i agree on that, i just thought this before the netflix series came out
>>704285114
One of the best campy, old school action flicks of the past decade.
>>704285114
What didn't you like about the John Travolta version? I thought Jane did well.
I agree with you BTW, just curious.
I can't defend this, it's total shit but I think it's great
>>704284762
It's the gritty reboot meme without any talent. Maybe the Brosnan movies sucked after Goldeneye but the DC movies still sucked. That guy is not leading man material. I mostly blame the director though.
Fassbender with some Moore-like personality and style ftw. Not as campy tho. Moore is my favorite.
Hudson Hawk. I think it's a hilarious movie. I always watch it whenever on TV.
>>704285189
Yeah it did. Great movie and my personal favorite but it just wasn't commercially successful.
>>704285324
It's an amazing show. They did a lil teaser for season 3 at some convention.
The Defenders looks sweet af too.
>>704285435
i thought the punisher just didnt look right. he seemed way too small and the whole movie felt a bit too anti climatic. I didn't like how he made some friends etc.
the second version was cheesy yeah but way more gritty and you felt like he was actually punishing people
>>704285125
Great movie. Hard to believe anyone found it meh.
>>704284912
One of my favorites!
>>704285501
I need to watch this again, last time I saw it I was 10 years old and really only remember the dudes arm getting ripped off.
Seems to have very low reviews, but I love it
>>704285436
did you watch this as a kid and get nostalgic towards it?
Twilight
>>704285688
id watch it if there was an unaltered copy with all the gruesome scenes left in
>>704285635
Good points. I guess I remember it fondly if only because of the cheesy fight seen between him and the Russian.
>>704283276
Not even a Ray Liota fan.
>>704285688
>disbelieve low reviews
>look up metacritic score
Holy shit reviewers were retarded.
>>704285501
Literally no one thinks this movie is shit lmao ya dummy
>>704285695
Pretty much. Saw it at the cinema when MK was massive. Seen it again recently, thought it was obviously kinda bad, but had a cool campyness to it, very different from modern super-cereal movies
>>704285800
I'll give that scene props. i remember that being a standout from the rest of the movie
>>704285688
I just wish we could see the full, double-the-length version originally intended. It sounds like the Inferno in space, which is metal as fuck.
>>704285832
Was the original poster all pixelated like that in the center? It's an odd contrast against the sharper top and bottom images.
>>704284912
Nostalgic as fuck. I remember watching it when I was like 8 with my dad. I liked it, but I was 8
>>704285435
Not OP, I myself thought they did not catch the real Punisher. When I look at Thomas Jane, it felt to me like he had one of those days that you wake up, you gotta go to work, you don't want to though.....you still drag your ass out of bed for it.
While Jon Bernthal really seems to push himself and how the character is. I see his Punisher and it feels a lot more genuine..that this man is fucked up and is fighting a war inside himself, truly wants to rid the world of criminals.
Plus I like how that Punisher gives the good guys shit, talks about how their way is just a half measure, that they can't go through with what needs to be done to truly keep the scum off the streets.
>>704284106
People who dont like this movie are either retard DieHard Evil Dead fans who would suck Bruce Campbell's dick in a heartbeat or are hyper squeamish with blood and gore.
>>704285568
"want me to rape him?"
God now I want to listen to that animal song.
>>704284912
"No man, you're famous" was kinda cringe
>>704285688
Dubs of truth, great movie I though, prob like a top 5 honestly.
>>704283276
that fucking movie when they drink their peepee
>>704285941
>>704285790
>In an Event Horizon Q&A in 2011, Anderson was asked when extra footage will be made available. He responded "never", explaining that much of it is gone forever.[4] However, in a 2012 interview he announced that producer Lloyd Levin had found a VHS tape with his original rough cut. Anderson said that after finishing Resident Evil: Retribution, he planned to watch this rough cut for the first time since assembling the film.
From Wiki, and from a while back... but there's always hope. Apparently the movie has a large following post-home release, so... maybe...
>>704285436
Amen. No defense possible but I watch it every time it's on tv
>>704283276
No name people, lots of cheese, but for some reason I liked it.

Been a while since I listened to it lol. Love it!
>>704284550
I know this got shit on a lot, but I'm really not sure what people were expecting for a budget movie based on Dead Rising.
>>704286325
> From the mind of M. Night Shyamalan
As opposed to from the prostate?
Self-explanatory. May be the best movie to date (ever made).
>>704285688
If the studio hadn't fucked with it, it could have been so SO much better. Just looking at some of the fucked up shit that was going to be in this makes me wish we got the proper cut.

inb4 waaah it's not like the comic book, I don't comics so I thought this was perfectly ok
and Tilda Swinton as Gabriel was eminently fuckable
>>704283276
Harry Brown
Great movie in my opinion, the opening scene alone is worth it.
https://youtu.be/UWK2db_-eVU?t=14
>>704286572
When I saw it, I had no idea it had been so tampered with and I loved it. Still like it despite the cuts, but rue the fact that they were made
>>704286580
I m with you on this bro! Very good movie..and about Gabriel too
>>704286117
>>704284912
>>704285663
I think this movie just had bad timing. People were already overloaded with Kevin Costner (Robin Hood, Dances With Wolves, Tin Cup, Bodyguard, Wyatt Earp, etc) and coming out with two movies in a short time frame with the similar post-apocalyptic tone with a stoic and mysterious protagonist just made it insta-fail.
>>704284309
Despite Brian Singer's lame-ass direction, I thought this film was wonderful.
Chiefly, the opening scene - seeing the mutants work together and use their powers in practical ways as a team in order to accomplish a specific goal, not just make things explode for spectacle, was refreshing.
That opening action sequence alone would make this movie worthwhile, but the rest holds up pretty well too.
It's just too bad they fucked it up with Apocalypse. I knew Singer would drop the ball. Maybe he was too busy molesting a boy in his trailer to invest time in pacing, character development, and coaching his performers.
>>704283276
Used to be my favorite movie
>>704286580
Probably one of my favorite movies, tbh fam. Although i never read the comic book, cause apparently that's the deciding factor on if you enjoyed it
>>704286366
Lol bitch nigga
>>704286570
I think most shitting on this movie is done in hindsight. A lot of people who supposedly hate it now probably loved it closer to release.
I've maintained my general opinion of it since I watched a crap blootleg VHS copy at a friend's house while it was still in theaters: The main love story is balls, most of the characters are shallow, but the story of the Titanic itself carries the movie.
>>704286782
I saw this in IMAX twice. The writing is nothing special, and the bootstrap paradox pisses me off, but it's a great visceral experience with a kick-ass soundtrack.
>>704286782
Who the fuck thought this was bad, shits godly
>>704283276
I've always really liked it even though it was panned to fuck. Thought it was cheesy but really was enjoyable to watch. I'm off to Universal studios next year and I really wanna see the show.
>>704286366
Don't know how serious you are, but I actually do enjoy this movie.
It's very much like an ancient Greek epic. A few heroic demi-gods (they fly, defy the elements, etc) go into the sky to defeat a menacing titan. They often act irrationally, and chance and magic seem to get them out of a lot of sticky situations. That's dionysian as shit.
Fuck Michael Bay, though. Like Zach Snyder, he can capture beautiful images, but doesn't know how to add a human touch to them.
>>704284087
THAT WAS FUCKING AWESOME
>>704286782
You 're joking right? This movie was epic on so many levels. Who thinks this was not a good movie?
>>704285125
Comeau says:
>10/10 movie but the books were better
Robocop
I'll admit, a shit movie, but I enjoyed it. Probably due to nostalgic reasons.
>>704287562
Any one else drop acid while watching this?
>>704286870
You seem to know your stuff. I bet if this movie came out nowadays, it would be a hit. Post apocalyptic scenarios are popular lately.
>>704287526
Everyone loves Robocop, you're crazy.
>>704286366
The only Michael Bay movie worth watching (yes, fuck The Rock as well)
It's a really good bad movie. Willis, Bob Thornton, Tyler and Buschemi made it totally decent to watch. I hate to say this but even fucking Ben Affleck touched my heart when he picks the shortest straw.
>>704287711

yes.

Great film, only reason some people disliked it was because of libcucks whining. If you liked that check out the Death wish series, it's great
>>704283857
>an hour or so in, I had no idea what was going on
wait, what? A Bond movie has a plot too complex for anon to understand? Is anon perhaps un-diagnosed potato?
>>704288628
oh for heaven's sake, stop being dramatic and overdoing it.
the movie was great. the book can't be *that good*. not Hemingway good, anyhow.

>>704284524
Name a better movie from that erra. I'll wait

Vastly underrated. I think the way it was marketed just had everyone expecting a typical superhero movie
>>704288765
anon, pls
did you at least read it before dissing?
>>704283276
Wrong OP. I always liked Waterworld, never understood the shit kicking it took when it was released.
>>704288603
This movie deserves so much more love than it gets. Shit, the editing alone deserves praise.

not that anon but his short stories are where it's at:

People shit on Spiderman 3, but I like it. It's the only Toby one where he's spiderman through the whole thing. It's not an origin story, so there isn't a time before he gets his powers. He doesn't have some personal crisis where he "loses" his powers. The emo scenes could have been better, but it's a good flick. And Franco is a boss!
>>704288977
It was pretty good until the flood.
>>704288059
Oh look, book is so much better virgin here. The movie was entertaining. It doesn't deserve 0/10.

Hemingway 'must reads'
1. Islands in the Stream
2. For Whom the Bell Tolls
3. The Old Man and the Sea
4. The Complete Short Stories of Ernest Hemingway (published posthumously)
I'll surely read perfume, as it sounds like quite the read...
Not even trolling. I thought this movie was fucking awesome. I honestly don't understand how people hated it.

>>704286335
what the fuck is even happening in this poster? is he about to chop his own foot off? is he just machete dancing? is he trying to chop a hole in the floor? is he headbutting the wall until he loses consciousness so he can forget about being in some shitty movie nobody ever heard of?
what the fuck?
>>704285435
I like Jane, but they took the violence way the hell down and Jane's version of the character didn't seem like the kind of maniac who would blow your head off for jaywalking. Ray Stevenson's portrayal, on the other hand...

>>704289837
>lets be besties b/c our moms had same name
It's so much more than that. The name is a coincidence. It's the moment that Bats realises that Supes isn't just an alien capable of destroying the planet.
He realises that he has an investment in the planet and cares about it just as much as he does.
It's the exact point where Bats loses his blinkered rage and starts to think rationally.

>>704288921
Read up on filming and production. In everyone's eyes it was doomed from the start. Drew attention for that and would seem all the critics hated before even seeing it.
That said they did a hatchet job in editing. But the screenplay was good and with better directing and editing it would have been great.
>>704290241
best joke ever.
>>704290160

wouldnt be such a bad movie if they just hadn't named it "godzilla"
godzilla is a giant monster shooting lazer beams and is completely immune against anything that people throw at it. which is why another, equally awesome monster has to step in to stop godzilla.
this one was just a big lizard walking through the city of manhattan and then dies because rockets lol.

DRY LAND IS NOT A MYTH! IVE SEEN IT!
I don't see what the big fuss is about. I saw that movie nine times. It rules!!
>>704285125
liked it untill i read the comics
>>704284912
yeah I don't get that either. It is a great movie for sure.
>>704290845
oh fuck everyone involved in this movie should be buried alive*
*except Salma
>>704290909
Is this bait
>>704290741
its good, great in fact, but it feels more like a theatre play than a movie
very slow, great dialogues, too much hommage jerking, few action payoffs
still, Tarantino is a master, 8/10 for sure
>>704290741
This is the best Tarantino since Reservoir Dogs
>>704288774
And then they cooked up this turd. Proof that the last bit of talent they had between them was dumped into Cloud Atlas.
>>704290166
It's symbolic. Superman could've said "they have my mother" or "don't let them kill my mother" and it would've had the exact same impact.
But both their names are Martha. It's not something made up for plot. So why not use it.
>>704291019
Hell yeah my nigga
>>704284912
Loved the postman watched it on my phone on youtube about a year ago for the first time i didnt even know there was another weird cheesy kostner movie out there like waterworld
>>704290742
Recently watched it for the first time. Been practicing the Gun Kata ever since.
Problem with this movie is it looks a little low budget.

I really like this movie, Im just guessing most people cant stand Owen Wilson
>>704290994
How could this possibly be misconstrued as bait? I commented on a Post, it had a reply, it also had a Battlefield Earth Movie Poster that was supposed to add my opinion of the topic. Are you suddenly unsure of how to work the internet?
>>704286642
>Harry Brown
great one
10000BC
litterally everyone i met hated it.
i loved it and still do. cant even say why.
>>704291194
>Been practicing the Gun Kata ever since
>>704291080
My gf loved this movie. It don't think it's aimed at me or my demographic.
There was a run of sci-fi love movie chick-flicks came out around the same time. I think it was a trend for a while.
>Time Traveler's Wife
>The Adjustment Bureau
There were more but I can't be arsed scouring my brain.
>>704285501
The only good thing here is cage's hot wife in the film.
>>704283499
Fanfiction tier writing
>fuck the meaning of the endings of the last 3 films
>everything bad that ever happened in your life was manipulation by your evil long lost brother muaHahahahahahahahahah
>ps we ripped off the dark knight again
>psst we also recycled the "point of agents in digital age muh nsa once again too
>>704285568
Same dude. Seen it a shitload of times.
>>704291322
Holy fucking kek.
>>704285501
wow I didn't realize Chief O'Brien was a main character in that.
whats the opinion on this one?
for me its 9/10 but I feel its meh for most people
>>704291794
>>704291322
>Holy fucking kek.
worst posture ever.
lol
>>704289387
Only hipsters and reddit scum like tarantino. Tarantino's career ended with Pulp Fiction. Everything from there is just shit.
>>704285688
Shit. There's a nightclub where I live called event horizon. I used to sell ecstasy and one night I was so high I literally threw all 200 ecstasy pills in the air. There was a fucking stampede of people fighting over pills. What a night. Such debt.
>>704286782
I am one of the people that didn't like it. You can't just go around acting like your movie is scientific and have all these scientific rules that change the story, then start throwing then out when it gets convenient. Though it's probably the only movie I didn't like hat I would still recommend people see
>>704290741
That movie was fuckin awesome
>>704292101
anon pls
>>704292225
See?
>Year one
>Land of the lost
>Prometheus
>>704292165
>then start throwing then out when it gets convenient
care to explain?
keep in mind that a top-tier expert on physics helped along the way, even for the black hole scene which is highly hypothetical. Also the library scene is meant to represent a higher dimension which we have zero knowledge about. Bullshit about love was bullshit tho
>>704291601
Monica Potter was perfect in her prime. No, Con Air is great for what it is - a consistently entertaing movie. That's why it's always on tv. I will add Reindeer Games for the same reason.
>>704292406
>gives her the coords of the base
>tries to stop her going to the base
>>704292465
oh shit
>>704292101
Know how I can tell you haven't even seen any of Tarantino's movies after Pulp Fiction?
>>704289496
I actually liked it. It had a lot of problems, but I loked. Thouh I blame the studio for that. The last act and the choice of Jesse Eisenberg was fucking g stupid though and I think that's what ruins the movie for most people
>>704290845
>wicky wah wicky wicky wah wah
KYS yourself and dont ever come back
>>704292406
The very reason that the Event horizon of a Black Hole is a thing is because once you enter it you can't leave.
You do not exist in a space-time that allows you to leave. That's why it's black. Because light (and time) can't leave.
I could explain, but I'm not a physicist and would probably do a bad job of it. Just google: Light Cone.
>>704290520
yeah kinda.
I was very hyped when they put Godzilla back to it's goldy status who doesn't give a shit about humanity in 2014.
But the movie itself wans't good.
loved the first two Chucky moives
>>704292887
Love this movie.
Apparently it was badly cut and lots of scenes were removed.
>>704292641
And so it begins. Butthurt fans in 3, 2, 1...
>>704292783
dude I'm aware of that
but if Kip Thorne allowed it, its probably because there's a slight chance it could be the case
maybe he went into the black hole, emerged in the 5th dimension (space and time most likely switch places/orientation in black holes), and the beings there had the technology to send him back to the world
I'd have to rewatch the movie tho
>>704292887
I liked how they handled him picking up their language. It was pretty slick. Great battle scenes too.
>>704292943
I liked the 3rd and 4th.
>>704292101
This.
>>704293075
so you haven't seen any of them
>>704293099
I don't know. I suppose it's all theoretical.
I just know that everything I've read about Black Holes states that once you cross the Event Horizon, apart from being incredibly fucking dead, it's impossible to come back from it.
One of my all time favorites, but it has a horrible IMDb rating
>>704290692
You fucking mong, Deb was hot.
>>704290887
Really? Comics were great! Except for the end of first volume that was cringe the rest was good
>>704293370
>incredibly fucking dead
But that wouldn't make for much of a movie now would it?
>>704290838
Had to look that up. Did you recognize her right away?
>>704291723
This. Also, did I miss something with the scene where Blofeld is drilling into Bond's head? Blofeld goes into a load of detail about how he's going to fuck up Bond's memory or some shit and actually goes through with it, and then it's never mentioned again.
Also also ignoring everything else the opening scene is fucking brilliant.
>>704283276
i love waterworld
>>704293370
agreed
how amazing it wouldve been:
>goes into black hole
>wait a couple of seconds
>roll credits, the end
now that's a scientific statement
>>704293317
It's like comunism. When it fails communists say "that wasn't real comunism".
>>704290629
Shit, thats his best one.
>>704290742
I used to fucking love that movie but I feel like if I watched it now it'd seem ridiculous.
>>704293706
I did, it did
The Matrix hype is waaaayyy behing us
>>704286570
I read a doujin making fun of the scene on the cover.
It was a succubus fapping a shota, though. Great doujin. I'd pay for a physical copy of Brandish uncensored in English.
>>704284715
This might legit be the worst movie I've ever seen. Single-handedly made me despise Michael Cera
>>704290160
The movie wasn't shit.
But it was a total BETRAYAL! to the fanbase.
Kinda like DmC. Both are competent entries in their respective media. It's just the sort of thing none of the fans wanted.
>>704285501
Nigger, everyone loves Con Air.
>>704293964
>made me despise Michael Cera
that had to happen sooner or later m8
I fucking flipped tables when he was cast in this >>704285125
>>704285832
...I thought thas everyone had forgot this movie
My friends all hate this move, think its boring as fuck. I say its Kubrick's best.
Dunno the general consensus among non-critics, but I like it
>>704293564
No Googled to see if anyone else in the WW cast went on to do anything decent.
>>704286782
Wat
it was a fantastic movie
>>704287711
Some of the best cenematography in the last 20 years
>>704293623
It's actually more like you haven't seen any of Tarantino's movies after 1994.
>>704294198
Anyone else think the pacing was weird as fuck in this movie?
>>704293662
kek
at least let them have SEX first brah
>>704292077
It's actually a pretty good movie. If people think it's "meh", then it's their loss.
I mean, Evangellion was there first with the Magi, and Psychopass did it later with the Sybil System, and it's kinda 1984 in the future, so clearly it had an impact.
It's probably a lot less underrated than a lot of the movies in this thread.
>>704293569
At first I thought so too, but LITERALLY 'the power of love'
>>704294451
>>704292077
Ho,u Christ I fucking love that movie
>>704287711
>>704294261
I fucking loved this movie. One of the few movies I actually rewatch.
>>704291291
If your goal was cringe. Mission accomplished.
Honestly I'm surprised I haven't seen this in the thread yet. It was shit on by everyone and the people in it hated the damn thing. Not to mention Nintendo is barely getting over this abomination, but I grew up with it and I loved it.
>>704292077
>>704294451
How true was it to the book? I read the book, but never watched the movie.
I've yet to meet anyone who liked this movie, but I love it.
A lot of The Rock movies fall under this category actually.
>>704294965
How about this one
>>704293460
>>704294934
>>704294934
never read the book actually, I guess I should?
the movie as itself is incredible though
>>704294965
haha I almost posted that
too bad it wasn't totally like the game, like "Tron" or something
having a bunch of special forces go check out what happened is kind of dumb
>>704295079
The book was good, pretty short too. I'm just waiting for a good adaptation of Ubik.
>>704294840
> Movies you thought were great, but everyone else thought was "meh"
> Lists shit tier movie
Hope the reboot is good
>>704295217
Or God tier movies. I'm pretty sure I saw both Green Room and Django up there.
>>704295217
>dur hurr, I was only pretending to retarded
Take your edge and the ghost busters reboot and shove it up your boi pussy
>>704285854
What do you mean, it has a 6.9 on metacritic.
Unless you are talking about the professional critic score, but who the fuck believes those?
For fucks sakes the metacritic score for Super Troopers is 48.
