I was exactly the same way from about 13-21, when I was growing up in poverty. It came back right after college when I started making real money. I bought a couple dogs and it came back in full force. Believe me, when that urge hits, it hits hard. And constantly. I had to get 2 more a year later. And I'm looking at another 2 sometime next year.
You're not feeling it right now because your body has acclimated to not being able to fulfill the cravings since puberty, so it kind of shuts it off until later in life. Same thing with foods. If you have a craving for a certain food but can't get it, it eventually goes away and stays away for a while. It will come back eventually.

Their starting salary is about 40k and starting debt is upwards of $400,000. I didn't see it making me happy. I wanted to spend my life with my dogs, not doing procedures for my rich clients' dogs.
I picked computer science halfway through because I saw the writing on the wall, and some friends of mine had told me to switch asap. All they could find was low-level lab gruntwork for $10/hour.
The late switch was worth it. I graduated a year later than normal and had to do summer school on top of it, but it worked out fine. The only thing I want now is to make the same money I'm making now but without working so I can spend more time with my dogs.

I've heard this sentiment my whole life and if you're still young I just want you to know it's complete bullshit. A job is a job. It's some strange, unfamiliar place you go to x amount of hours a day to spend y amount of time with the people you actually care about at home.
Programming is ok. It's a nice job. I have great coworkers. There's free coffee and lunch. But there's nothing in my job that I would trade for a winning lottery ticket and instant retirement. You don't have to absolutely love what you do. You just have to like it enough to be good doing it, and tolerate it enough so it doesn't make you resentful. I can program all day and not feel bad about programming itself, but I'd definitely feel bad about missing out on a day with my dogs at home. That's all a job is. A way to sell your time to someone else in exchange for more time at home.
Trust me, programming is a great entry into the world, but you have to be prepared to do your own side job to make money on your own independently of your employer. You'll never get anywhere working 14 hours a day for someone else. I'd rather be at home fucking my dogs to be honest.

I never had to take chemistry in HS because I took Human Anatomy which was INFINITELY more fun because we watched surgery videos and I was allowed to eat snacks unless we were doing lab stuff. I also learned that the closer I am to the front, the better my grades are.

Also, with this being said, as much as I like my current coworkers, as much as we've been through, I never got attached to them. Absolutely nothing would prevent me from instantly taking another job that was part time hours with the same pay, or allowed me to work from home. I absolutely despise driving almost an hour away from my dogs to spend time at some company doing work, knowing that my dogs are stressed waiting for me to come back. I have to do this 5 days a week. I'm really ready to just retire at this point with an internet business or something. Or a car wash. Or anything that lets me stay home forever.

Every job is a bullshit job. You're literally trading segments of your life away to a multimillionaire/billionaire for the bare privilege of survival. Even if they pay you well, you are still on a ball and chain. You can't go into work whenever you're short on cash. You have to be there every single day, at the same exact time or risk losing your income stream permanently. Every job is bullshit job. Trust me. Work is just work.
Don't get attached to your coworkers either. No matter how much you may like them, they will never be your family. A job is just a means to enjoying your life at home, nothing more. You have a limited amount of time on Earth, and so do your loved ones. Don't throw it away by buying into that "love what you work at" bullshit. I did that at first with biology and I lost almost 2 years of my life I will never recover.
When you finally reach the apex of your life, you will remember every second you wasted. Now that I have my canine soulmates, I can't help but remember every shitty job, every wasted moment I had up until now. Even now, my programming job takes up a huge chunk of my life during the week, and those are just wasted days chipping away at the limited time on Earth I have to enjoy my canine family. They only live a decade and a half, and that time is being donated to some millionaire to increase his company's profit margin. That doesn't make me feel good. I want my own business.
