If we weren't able to inspect the wreckage of the Titanic and just had to go off the blue prints we would never know how it happened, but because we did we saw they fucked up the construction with shit metal and the wrong rivets. It was built above an electrical substation and a subway. There was also a large amount of fuel stored in the lowest floor.
The design was not typical. The steel for the floors was smaller than what was in the other towers. Fire at that low of a level going unstopped for as long as it did is a death sentence for a building.
Also 'Fireproofing' is not impervious to heat. It protects the steel until the fire is resolved, which in this case it was not. There was a lack of water and manpower as firefighters were more concerned with saving lives.
So to answer your question: a mixture of terrorism and confusion brought that building down.

The comparison between the WTC and the Titanic ends at the fact they were both destroyed by things they were designed to withstand.

For the Titanic, six or seven compartments being ripped open when the limit was four, for the WTC a 767 hitting it at full speed instead of a 727 or 707 at cruising speed.
The fact both the Titanic and the WTC survived long enough to save many people are testaments to their strength.

There was a fire burning on the inside of that building for over an hour at that point. Also you can't see it in OP's angle but a small structure on top of the building collapses first, hitting the center of the weakened roof and making it collapse.
