I have talked to many about it and they love the idea. Hell one said V8 will be obsolete one day. Really? Doubtful. Highly doubtful. V8 is the way to go. The Panther engine I got actually isn't bad on gas which is the main argument I get. I know people who drive smaller and weaker power cars who pay more per week and they don't drive as much. Yea I get the premise of fuel economy but small V8s is a good option.

Maintenance must be a nightmare. The reason I steered away from anything foreign was due to the lack of parts availability in the states. At least the M923A2 is still in service today, so parts are plentiful- and since it has parts from Cummins and Allison, it is also easy to find compatible parts from other vehicles.

My skin fried during the day, and I froze during the night with the top down. It was a bitch to clean. Made too much noise when going down the highway when the top was up. Lastly, I didn't enjoy everyone looking into my car while the top was down... no privacy.

I wasn't going into my car purchase wanting a Jeep per se, I wanted a hatched vehicle with a manual transmission. And, if it had to be taller, all-wheel drive. The Golfs didn't have enough room, the Golf Sportwagen limited the sticks to TDI (expensive and now gone) or only the basest trim TSI; netiehr the HR-V, 500X, nor CX-5 couple their manual trans to AWD; no manual for CX-3; the 2.0 Mazda3 was a slug and the 2.5 GT was way too damn expensive for a non-sports hatch. It really boiled down to Forester, Crosstrek, Countryman, and Renegade.
The Subarus were unrefined. They had lots of highway noise, their infotainment system was about 3-4 generations behind everyone else, the gearbox was notchy and clutch feel pisspoor, and unless you get a WRX, Subaru tunes their suspension to 1980's Buick.
The Countryman is an awesome little car, but it just didn't have enough value proposition for me.
So after much back and forth, I went for my first Mopar product. Is it perfect? No. But the 1.4T/6spd is far and away the best combo out of all these subcompact-based CUVs; the 4-wheel drive system is fairly legit as it has the capacity to take 100% of the engine's torque and send it to any wheel (Honda can only send up to 40% with their micro rear diff) coupled with the ability to proactively engage it rather than it be entirwly reactive where the wheels must slip before it engages; the chassis definitely shows its Fiat roots as it's actually kinda fun to toss in a corner.
