Backbreaking work at a lumber yard lifting heavy shit to load customers for our salesmen who make 4x what I do.
25k per year.
Quitting and going back to school for computer science. Is that a good idea?
no, you'll just incur massive amounts of debt and have to start with shitty internships and shit tier jobs.
make something of yourself--learn a skilled trade. weld, plumb, be an electrician. jobs that aren't going away any time soon. jobs that aren't contingent upon fads and trends (i.e. technology jobs). everyone needs to shit. everyone needs electricity. everyone needs metal bits to be held together. the people that do those jobs make fucking BANK, get union protection (with time and experience), and are actually valuable to society.
im goin on 40..... only make $16 a. Hour yo...... that goes for most people I know ......
those numbers are fucked,,,,,,, kys
Graveyard manager of a homeless shelter.

I've tried getting into an apprenticeship program for 2 years. It seems to be exclusively reserved for the sons of current existing plumbers/welders. I can see why. Starting pay is $17/hr. I have nobody vouching for me so skilled trades is kind of out of the question.
Do you know of anyone who did comp sci who regretted it? I went to college for a bit but only ended up with debt. I want to have something to show for it by getting an actual degree maybe.
I hope so man. Starting community college in the spring. I'm 25 now. Is 29ish too old to be graduating for comp sci?
any of you moneyfags need your balls tickled or your ass pissed in?? i need me a new truck.... will work for $$$$$$ :D
That's about the average, dude. 16 an hour at 40 is pretty realistic. The national "average" is usually skewed by billlionaires.
Half the national averages and it's more accurate. Most people who make over 40k a year by 25 are basically set for life. They're the rare exception, not the rule.
i dont care.... i should have been dead by now.... i am lost......
*takes a toke*
>>fuck it bruh
I tried. You can't get into an apprenticeship without blood relations. If you go to school for a trade, it's hard to get into a union without blood ties, which means you're stuck working for a shitty plumber boss at $13/hr. I've seen it and I don't want to repeat that mistake.
If you can teach yourself do it, if not take the debt and go to community college. 703154174 is a fucktard if he thinks technology is a fad.
I write software in the midwest 130k/yr. But I have been doing it 10+ years expect closer to 60k at first job if in midwest, and a bit more on the coasts, but not crazy amounts more.
I keep hearing people recommend computer science both online and in real life. Do you think 29 is too old to graduate though? I'm not a dumbass when it comes to computers. I can probably make up for my lack of education with personal eperience building computers, hobby programming, etc. But I've been scraping by with shit jobs the past 10 years so I haven't had a chance to really focus on computers.
Absolutely. It sounds cliche but if you can put in the work it will be rewarding. Technology is the future anon, always has been.
It sounds like you need a change. You can either try to improve your life or keep being a poorfag, and it's completely up to you.
I would feel amazing making 40k at 8 hours a day. All my life I've been making 30k with 12 hour days and I'm really sick of it.
How much do you think someone with no experience could make starting out? And is it really bad to start the career at 29? What if I just stopped at an associates with a dirt cheap community college and self taught myself the rest? Then I could start at 27.
I realisticaly can't teach myself to program after working 12 hours a day at a fucking lumber yard. Every day is exhausting. I just take a bath, eat something, and go to sleep. Not even time for TV. Realistically, I will need to live on loans to focus on learning how to program.
>personal eperience building computers
mostly useless skill unless you want to work in a hajib shop
more than enough to make 80k/yr. just finish your degree so companies will take you seriously, actually for real study for the interviews, it's just like an exam, then you're set. If you're halfway competent you'll pull yourself out of poverty quickly.
sauce: me. grew up piss poor nerd, now rolling in dough

Thanks man. I really need a boost sometimes. Where you end in life usually depends on where you start, and I started at the absolute bottom. My mom made like 15k/year growing up, no dad.
I hope comp sci turns my life around.
If you keep this attitude, it will. Just stick with it anon, it'll be tough, but when you got major cashflow because of YOU, it'll feel pretty fucking good.
I'm switching majors in a big way right now actually, history to geology. I want to work in oil. Its gonna be hard as fuck(math) but imagine how much harder life would be if i didnt have a solid career.
Good luck anon

8k is a lot when I can barely afford a roof over my head. I've been looking into working as a night security guard so I can hopefully do my comp sci homework while sitting at a booth somewhere. Hoping that works out. I still won't be able to survive without school loans though.
All I know is very minor HTML. Like six hours worth or less. Like I siad, I'm too exhausted after work to put much time into it anymore. And to top it off, my fucking schedule rotates, so sometimes I work until 8 at night and get called in for 6am the next day. Backbreaking labor. This life is a fucking joke.
Also make contacts. If at all possible get an internship or a college that will actually place you. Degrees don't mean much (they mean something but don't dick ride them to much) . It's not what you know, it is who you know that really matters.
I feel ya anon. parents divorced, I spent my youth playing Vidya and having literal autists for friends. Went to college and fucking pulled myself out of poverty.
dad be asking me for a loan and shit. Shiiiiit, but I'm not a fool. I didn't do all that work to blow it. you can do it anon, believe
Why not petroluem engineering?
So associate's a no-go? I'll do a bachelor's if the two years of lost work is worth it.
Thanks man. I'll do some certs on the side too. I was working on getting my A+ cert when I was 20, but I got derailed because I got kicked out of my house so I had to do a shitty job for years just to survive.
to be serious, minor HTML won't get you far. Consider taking e.g. Coursera or local community college courses on nights. Yeah it sucks. I knew a guy who was a security guard, and did night classes on the side. Took a while, but he finished his degree this way. The pay raise is worth the initial investment, if you can handle the work and risk
Yeah, I planned to take full advantage of the job placement at my college. But my college is going to be a community college. Do you really think I can get a decent job with just an associates?
I can't wait until my fucking relatives ask me for loan money so I can tell them to fuck off.
Well I got hired at a software shop at 19 without a degree. You start off making shitty money ($15-50/hr) and working your ass off. Eventually you'll be come a full engineer and make bank. Internships while in college will land you the job
I'm not broken enough for disability, and I should actually bump that number up to ~$5000 because I take care of the pool at an apartment complex I live at with a friend.
So how hard is it to get disability? I've never really looked in to it. I have a bunch of learning disabilities if that helps.
>startup founder / growth hacker
Just signed b2b with fortune 50 my salary will probably double and I own 1% of company.
Thanks man. I'm really looking forward to this new career. Hopefully my first real career after a string of shit jobs. Thanks to all who helped me out this thread. I'll be in college in January.
I'm fairly vision impaired due to a preexisting condition that wasn't discovered until I turned 18 in addition to being partially deaf so I kind of have a leg up over people with like, dyslexia or something. I'm basically on a state program to get me a degree that will land me a cushy enough job that my worsening vision won't be too much trabbu. On the bright side of things the technology to basically just fucking replace my retinas is getting better every year
I'm 21 male Arizona usa and i go to community college and mAke a little money working odd jobs and doing little things here and there but i have a uncle who's rich and he might leAve me a million dollArs or two or three when he dies its. My lifegoal to be rich like 20 or 30 billion dollars rich but idk it's not for everybody we will just have to wait and see lol
P.S. It took nearly a year for SSA to process all of my information despite there not being much of it to process, so they wound up owing me around a year's worth in back pay (fortunately I was able to couch surf at my dad's house (i had moved out) while this was going on until him and his cunt wife could free up a room for me to basically rent from them while I went to community college. At full on university now (Go Cougs!)
i really really fucking hate it when you cunts cant into grammar it makes it really fucking hard to read this shit you stupid faggot like seriously delete system 32 and fucking hang yourself you autistic cunt
>sub-par wage (I take it you're engineer?)
Checks out.. did this for a while, 12 hours days 7 day weeks.. we flopped after 2 years shit was hell. Hope you actually unicorn anon
Ah, well that's good. You still never said your state, you in WA? I have family that manages an eye clinic that does a lot of cutting-edge/experimental surgeries. When that kinda stuff starts being widely tested in 6-8 years, they're going to be some of the first to do it, and being referred by an employee and submitting to a training/experimental procedure would net you a big discount.
Combat Lightsaber Specialist
I actually have a connection already. The guy who gave me assistive tech training is good friends (and ski partners despite being totally blind, this guy rocks) with one of the same people. Yes I'm WA
Yep, had to throw away my savings while all my bros working at google and facebook etc travel the world. I think it's worth it though, if it works out I'll travel private jet lol.... But yea, theres a chance it flops of course.
him, and yea, I kind of will... lol I've had to put up with so much bs and people. I've almost given up a few times, shits the most stressful thing i've ever done.
Oh cool, good to hear.
Hopefully you make something of yourself, I've kinda just given up and do some shitty programming in my spare time. I only have a bed to sleep on because I do all the cooking, cleaning, and shopping, but at least I'm not homeless.

I said look for vidya companies, not work for them. You take a huge hit in your quality of life for the 'glory' of working on video games. Areas that have a lot of video game developers tend to have even more software developers.
I am still job hunting. I need to get some money though
> Die prepper, hopefully future tool and die maker.
>18/hr and 70hrs a week every 3rd week. (3k per month or so.

i work 2 days a week and grow weed on the side for an additional 20k a year.
I love my job and even though I wont hit 1mil I love my customers and I live a pretty comfortable life. Cost of living is low, my car is paid off, and I get top of the line computer parts every other month. life is pretty good.
lol i do osha cert for forklift training. im stoned 99% of the time im teaching.
also nah. $20 an hour if they are smart. but some of these certified folks work at nurseries or walmart.
I could shut this thread down in an instant, seeing as it is my post. But I am keeping it alive puring on the chance that she is getting a hell of a lot of calls and texts. And so I can teach you morons a thing or two. You seem to think you can oust me in my own Kingdom? I basically own half the threads on /b/. This board basically bows to me on the daily. If I could I would just turn its wrath on you on an instant. But im enjoying this little back and forth with all of you. Just pray you toe the line while youre ahead faggots.
work at small companies that can take their pick of applicants as they grow and you get to work with some pretty cool people
a few weirdos here and there but mostly just sociable, smart, down to earth folks
Honestly, if you can sell yourself, and your college knows people? Yes without a doubt. My recommendation though? Try to get a state job. Those shits pay well, badass medical, and takes an act of god to fire you and you can move around so easy once your in.
Look into franchises, makes it easy to get started.
Paper doesn't mean much in the IT field in a lot of ways, really just real skills matter. In a lot of ways I use my social skills and actual problem solving skills more than tech skills most of the time.
It's a good time though, all self driven so can't be too lazy. If you're in Canada you should be able to find the franchise I'm involved with pretty easily, in the US it hasn't really started that much yet. UK/NZ/AU/SA are all good too.
Literally no other job available. Pay is shit even if I worked in my field (electroncs and multimedia). Bomb us again and be done with it.
In the USA they pay you like 25$ an hour if you're able to tie your shoelaces. The amount of capable people there seem to be close to non-existent.
I constantly get headhunters from USA-based companies with offers of salaries double of what I make now, and here I make double 'joe average'. (80k euro not including bonuses)
