As a butcher I'll happily disagree with you on that one, wood is superior for many applications. My ones I use now I made myself with maple on the fingertip side and walnut on my palm side, great grip. I disagree, the average person isn't mentally prepared to be cut with their own knife. The average person also tends to believe that their knife is the master sword and one swipe will destroy their opponent. Also, there isn't a single law to protect you if you use a knife for self defense. There are laws to protect you if you use your fists or firearm.

I really like this knife. It's dirt cheap, it's only about the size of a pencil, and it's got a cute shape, yet is practical for urban-type knifey-things. The name is stupid and it'd be a little to easy to lose your grip and cut yourself, but you really shouldn't be using it for anything too heavy anyways.
Also, it's fixed but still easily fits in your pocket.
9/10 would purchase again.

on the other hand I have to give some points to this anon. a knife has no power to stop somebody as opposed to your fists or other blunt objects. Most knife wounds are not registered in-fight if there isnt a major blood spill immediatly bc of all the adrenaline. so even if you slash/stab someone midfight, his punches/kickes/whatever will still hit you straight (since holding a knife lowers your meanings of defence)

blue mtech is my work knife. its probably illegal in my area cause its spring assist, but its a workhorse. gets nicked from time to time but thats why i bought a cheap work knife
blue spyderco sees no action anymore. it holds a special place in my heart, as it was my first knife. my dad gave it to me in third grade and ive had it ever since.
