This is where everyone fucks up. The 3 doesn't go in paranthesis. You simplified it as much as you can, so it turns into
> 6/2*3
And not
> 6/2(3)
>>
4
>>
it's funny, got into the same ?? when reviewing my algebra book from high school. what's easy to miss when executing PEMDAS is that you do the "multiplication and division" step from left to right, not multiplication left to right then division left to right.

It's the same
>6/2*3

>>
Orders of operation don't really help because different acronyms are taught. BODMAS and PEMDAS are both valid but have multiplication and division in a different order.

If multiplication takes precedence then the answer is 1. If division takes precedence then the answer is 9.

I think that the answer is 1 because the multiplication is implicit. You would always do implicit division (i.e. fractions) first so I think it should be the same for multiplication.

Neither takes precidence in either acronym, people are just stupid. They are on equal footing, just as addition and subtraction are. You go from left to right once all paranthesis, brackets, and exponents have been simplified.

You people are retarded. PEMDAS: Parentheses, Exponent, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction.

>6÷2(1+2)=?

Next is division which leaves you with one

The left to right aspect of pedmas vs the propensity to multiply by two before dividing because the appearance of that part "touching". Really, OP is the faggot here, because he presented us an equation that has more than one interpretation. There should be an extra set of parentheses (6÷2)(1+2) then there is no doubt in the order of operations. Mathematics at this level should not have ambiguity. The ruse created by OP here is like the scene in Wayne's World 2 where he orders from the drive through of stan Mikita's, but OP is all butthurt when some of us fell for his faggotry

No it isn't. The only time you distribute through paranthesis like that is when there's a variable in the paranthesis. If no variable, you solve the equation in the paranthesis, and eliminate it, which leaves you with:
6/2*3
3*3
9

You are pretty dense. Here we go
The equation 6/2(2+1)=6/2*(2+1). In the first the multiplication is implicit, in the other it is directly noted. Just different notation. With me so far?
The notation 6/2(2+1) simply means you multiply the whole fraction (in this case 6/2) with the factor (in this case 2+1).
It follows the simple rule a/b*m=am/b. When you are using variables you can also have implicit multiplication, but that means they are part of the same segment.

And I know some people use the ":" or "/" as implicit notation for "everything after this is the divisor" or some shit. We simply follow the rules and don't use it as implicit notation to be precise. The only time where we use it is with multiplication because it shouldn't confuse anyone... yet here we are...

To note, this is using fractions. (a/b)/m=a/b/m
>(a/b)(c/d)=ac/bd given b=/=0 and d=/=0
>(a/c)/(c/d)=a/b*d/c given c=/=0, d=/=0 and b=/=0
>a/b=ac/bc given b=/=0 and c=/=0
(a/b)+(c/d)=ad/bd+cb/db=(ad+cb)/bd given b=/=0 and d=/=0
And to note, (a/b)+(c/d)=a/b+c/d

I'll leave you now. These rigorous rules are used to teach and have been seen by many people. No problem has been found by them at all. They are rigorous.

Can't tell if all the retards in this thread saying it's 9 are just b8 or legitimately retarded. If we rewrite the equation with the 6 in the numerator position and the rest of the equation in the denominator, will you still agree the answer is 9? Pic related: it's what you are all doing to me right now.
