Pull the vacuum line off of your fuel pressure regulator and take a sniff at it. If it smells like gasoline the regulator may be leaking. If your exhaust smoke is blue(ish) that would indicate oil consumption. If the smoke is black(ish) I would suspect rich fuel mixture. A leaking fuel pressure regulator will cause this symptom.
>>
>>702176341
Who scanned it? Just a code reader from Autozone of something? It pretty rare to have fault lights with no codes set. Make sure the scan tool is able to read codes set in other modules, not just the PCM. You will want to get EBCM or TCCM scanned

>>702176754
Yea autozone, I also have a scangauge II installed. The abs light is intermittent, mostly it's a dash readout. On occasion I will lose all power due it being a hybrid, engine disengages when there is a serious issue like overheating or traction control cutting out.

Also, the 4x4 will either go full on, or full off when "service brakes" warning is on display. No reason for either.

"The LQ1 (also called the Twin Dual Cam or TDC) was a 3.4 L DOHC V6 motor ("X-code") based on the aluminum-headed second generation of GM's 60° engine line, sharing a similar block with its pushrod cousins, the 3.1 L LH0 V6 and the then recently retired 2.8 L LB6 V6."

Same engine block bro, just didn't have pushrods. Unless you think these things were launching pushrods out and blowing up, they would share similar baseline engine problems brah. They were both well known piles of shit.
>>
>>702180647

Check the cable for resistance, probably just corroded the batter cable, you may have to replace it.
>>
>>702180647

>>702181120

It is possible, you have a multimeter? Easiest way to start troubleshooting. Pull both ends of the cable, test ohms of the cable, see if it is reasonable. Then you can check if the solenoid gets power when someone turns the key, other suggestions about the clutch sensor and relays/fuses are good to look at as well.

"Bore was increased to 92 mm (3.6 in), but the 3.1 L engine's 84 mm (3.3 in) stroke was retained. There are only a few interchangeable parts between this DOHC engine and other members of the 60° family, namely the connecting rods and crankshaft."

I assume you refer to this, that is cause there are different heads you fucktard, of course you can't interchange the rest and the bore is different (bored out) so you can't reuse the fucking pistons. Are you really this god damn dense? Build an engine bro, it helps to understand how they work.

Yes thanks guys. I really appreciate these threads and your guy's time.
>>
>>702182477

I always used some spray when I worked in a shop, if that didn't do it, broke out the torch. It always worked eventually.
>>
>>702173320
Has to be bait
>>
>>702182222
Would an air ratchet work? Breaker bar will just round those 14mm nuts right off
>>
>>702182329
You can run a milder cam on a stock converter. If you go to big on stock converter it will be a dog from a stop and might want to die when stopped in gear. If you want a bumpy idle spring for a high stall
>>
>>702182870
Use a 6 point socket and you'll be fine.
>>
>>702182870

Air ratchet won't do shit, do you mean impact? Use a nice impact 6 point socket and it should be fine.
>>
>>702182870
Air ratchets usually don't have the balls. Mine only puts out 100 ft lbs.
>>
>>702182576
Aww eff. You're right.

My bad, other dude. I seriously thought you were trying to tell me my ohc had pushrods. That's def the wrong engine I'm looking at on wikipedia. I'll take my own advice and rtfa.

Idk, the six point socket I was using was starting to round them off. Pic related.
>>
>>702183231

NP bro, they made too many fucking similar engines in that period.
>>
Air ratchet won't have enough torque. As >>702182870 says, use a six point and as much handle as you can swing in there.

How Many wrenches do you own
>>
>>702183369
That's the problem too, lots of shit in the way.
>>
>>702183268

Yea, you will need to clean that up heavy. Get some liquid wrench or PB blaster, spray it and let it sit for a while, going to want to drown that shit. Give it a day or so, clean it up, torch it, then impact.

2003 ford crown vic cvpi,
240k miles,
Runs and drives fine, but if I keep it at a stop while running it will blow smoke from burning oil. Doesn't blow smoke during regular driving or under heavy acceleration. And also doesn't blow smoke at first start I'm the day. Work rings? Valve seals?
>>
>>702183333
Quads for truth.

And they all sucked

>>702183516
Impact not an option. I took that pic because I couldn't see the stud. It's facing up towards the floor pan

>>
>>702183268
Ew. You need a socket that is not chamfered on the inside. You aren't getting a bite on the entire face of the nut. Buy a new one and grind it flat if you have to.

Christ, my second quad in this thread and I respond to dubs, this is a get thread.

Didn't think of grinding a socket but yeah that might work. Or those extractor sets. Obviously I could care less about the nut just don't want to snap off the stud
>>
>>702183596

Smoke at idle almost makes it sound vacuum based. Valve seals should only smoke after sitting, rings will smoke on acceleration hard.

I've got an 2003 Ford Ranger, 3.0 V6 Manual, sometimes grinds going into 3rd. Im guessing it's the synchros. Just bought the truck. Could it just be low fluid? Just looking for some advice.

As long as your ok with a higher cost of ownership. Are you sticking with GM? What years? There are certain 6.6l's that are great and some to look out for

92 accord.

60k miles. Garage kept by old lady. 10k put on it after I took it over a couple years back. Daily short commutes. Replaced all sorts of shit when I grabbed it.

Goes wicked slow uphill. Will redline if pushed, going only 20mph. On non inclines, still slow to get up there but will eventually go 55 without straining.

Shift solenoid?

>>
>>702184010

I checked the air intake when I replaced the tps and it was coated in oil. Doesn't smoke any other time besides when sitting at a stop for an extended period of time, then I go. No other problems with the car whatsoever. So are you saying valves?
>>
>>702184408

Sounds right, synchros.
>>
>>702184465
Sounds like a plugged catalytic converter, check back pressure
>>
>>702184465

Are you saying it doesn't shift and just stays in first or it has no power?
>>
>>702184623
Probably.... but it's dark out. Let's play devils afvocate and say nah. Anything but the tranny could cause this problem?

Pedal basically does nothing until tou hit a certain point, then it revs and does nothing.
>>
>>702184408
Manuals are sealed. Not really but you usually don't service fluid. If it's just one then skip it. Could be a few things none of which are easily fixed. Ride it till the wheels fall off or put a tranny in it
>>

I'm thinking about getting a Cressida and do a 1jz swap or a 2jz if I get a decent one on the cheap from the wrecks, do you have any worthwhile alternatives that can fit there and provide at least 250 lb/ft of torque?
>>
>>702184839

If you have oil in the intake, it is something leaking oil back, could be PCV, albeit strange. I would check there first and look for other sources that lead to valve covers/oil pan that feed into the intake, it is most likely pulling oil from some line at idle when vacuum is high.
>>

It's probably >>702184874. I basically beer canned that fucker.
>>
>>702184180
>>702184010
I can hammer the throttle all day and see not a single plume of smoke. Just the stopped for a prolonged period blow by. I can stop it by shifting to neutral when stopped. So I had a thought of it being a vacuum problem. But like I said, 240k miles. And it's a retired police car so they maintain them pretty well while they are in service.
>>
>>702173012
This is kind of a dumb question but what do I do with a totalled car and I'm looking for a cheap pickup truck to last me awhile. Anything to be wary of?

No fords, garbage diesel

Not a huge fan of newer cummins either, head issues.

GM is my favorite and you can't beat the Allison trans behind it.

05-06 GM with 8th vin number "2" is one of the most reliable tow engines made.
>>
>>702185100

>>
>>702173012

>>
>>702185231
Not OP but can the truck be fixed easily enough? you can always rebuild it and apply for a rebuild title so it's road worthy. Otherwise part it out or sell to a TL yard like Copart.
>>
>>702185389

1991 Ford F150.. after a bit of driving the "check engine" light always comes on. Have replaced numerous parts over the last two years (oil pan, full exhaust, water pump, vacuum lines, alternator, several gaskets, spark plugs, adjusted the timing, one or two new belts, etc) and i always stay on top of changing the oil/filter. It seems like no matter what me and my buddy do, that damn light always comes on.
>>
>>702185231

Either sell it for parts or sell to a scrap yard. Toyota Tacomas are kinda pricey, but they run forever and are great trucks.

>>
>>702185465

It is possible then that there is a lot of crankcase pressure and it is blowing out the PCVs, then pumping oil into the intake, if that is the case, sounds like compression rings are worn. If you can get a pressure gauge on it that would probably give you a better idea.

I changed my catalytic converter on my honda and put high temperature gasket maker on the gasket where it conn3cts to the manifold.

Now my civic is overheating. Did the gasket maker burn up and clog My exhaust? How do I fix this?
>>
>>702186281
Did you put the whole tube in the cat? If not doubt I highly doubt it
>>
>>702185824
Just so I make sure I have an idea of what's going on, compression rings could be worn which is causing the pressure from the combustion chamber blowing past and putting pressure into the crankcase? And I would be looking for low compression in the combustion chamber?
>>
>>702185903
It shifts under 3k rpms but I feel that there is a delay when I press the throttle
>>
>>702186532
No I just coated the old gasket in it. What could cause the overheating? Oil and coolant are both good.
>>
>>702186281
That high temp shit is good to 600f. Have you checked coolant levels? Maybe your cat clogged cause you're burning it off. Pop the oil cap and look for scrambled eggs.
>>
>>702186551
Do a dry compression test and record all readings then do a wet test (teaspoon of oil in each cylinder) of readings significantly improve the rings are worn out
>>
>>702186551

Probably good place to start is a full compression test, see if it is good and it holds. You could also clean all the oil up and run it for a short bit, then see if you can trace the oil back, but that is my best guess based on the symptoms.
>>
>>702186707
When does it overheat? Do the fans work? How fast does cooling system build pressure?

Yeah I even bought the higher temp shit. I'll have to check that the fan belt isn't slipping.
>>
>>702186707

You should have used a new gasket, you shouldn't use that gasket maker shit on exhaust, they are normally metal gaskets to take the high temps.

What are the benefits of a total engine and transmission rebuild, assuming the rest of your car is in fine condition at 11 years old with 150k miles versus just buying a new vehicle, including financing and full coverage insurance?

>>702188208

Usually not worth it unless the car is a classic or holds high resale is relatively cheap to rebuild.

4.3? Probably poppet valves sticking, time for spider injector MFI upgrade
>>
>>702188960
International built it, used safe fuel maps, didn't make much power but was much more reliable. Ford got ahold of it and overfueled the hell out of it trying to compete in the LD Diesel market.
>>
>>702188999
Yup she's a 4.3. I'll take a look into that. 200,000 miles haven't been too nice to her and the previous owners certainly beat the shit out of it. could the O2 sensor have anything to do with it? Codes been on for about 9 months and I can't be bothered to get the whole exhaust fixed
>>
>>702189527
Would have to see some scan tool data to know for sure, just goin by what's common. 2 big things cause 4.3 misfires. Ignition and that damn spider injector. What tune up stuff did you use? I always use Delco, seen too many issues with aftermarket caps and plugs on the 4.3
