>>701694122
Aleppo citadel has been through battles in both pre-gunpowder and post-nuclear times... Quite staggering if you think about it.
>>701694520
>>701693943
I remember reading that the ruler of Rhodes at the time the original collapsed wanted to rebuild, but never did due to a warning from the oracle at delphi. But according to wikipedia, I think you're referring to this:
"In December 2015, a group of European architects announced plans to build a modern Colossus bestriding two piers at the harbor entrance, despite a preponderance of evidence and scholarly opinion that the original monument could not have stood there. The new statue, 150 metres tall (five times the height of the original) would cost an estimated $283 million, funded by private donations and crowdsourcing. The statue would include a cultural center, a library, an exhibition hall, and a lighthouse, all powered by solar panels."
Could be neat. Doesn't say if the plans were confirmed though.

True, I've also visited it. I liked the "hidden" staircase though.
>>701695105
Yeah they had perserved some of the cool little features. But it's a shame it was pettled as Draculas castle, because it could have been quite serene, if not for the endless hordes of tourists. Myself included, ofcourse
>>701694440
Truly. Just think, the armies of Alexander once stood on those grounds.

>>701695235
Couldn't have said it better myself. My favourite castles visited so far are the Konigsburg (on Christmas Eve, 1-2 hours before closing time. It's all decorated and everything and even better it's almost deserted) and Mehrangarh

#stopracism
>>701695336
i wish i could get a history boner.
for me it's history sadness, because we can only ever get a glimpse at its former glory. in some parts of the world disrespect for the past has even removed that tiny glimpse. they're still raiding unopened tombs in egypt for a quick buck.
this planet is hopeless.

Did the wall really work or was it a meme?
>>701695953
I get where you're coming from man, humans can be savages. Great monuments and constructions have already been lost, destroyed either by humans or nature. I agree that what is left should definitely be preserved, and disrespect of the sanctity of such historical sites should not go unnoticed (or unpunished for that matter). However, on the brighter side, I think this anon >>701696339, is correct in his suggestion to live in the moment. You shouldn't let the defacement of historical sites take away the satisfaction of knowing that if you set foot on, say, the acropolis in Athens, you're walking on ground that the great philosophers once stood on, removed only by a relative blink of a few thousand years.
For me the history sadness comes from the fact that history repeats itself, and oftentimes we as a society seem to learn nothing.

To be honest this thing is architecturally and militarily one of the less interesting structures in this thread, since it's relatively new and build for aesthetics only (the Disney castle was inspired by it). But because I'm a nice guy, here's a slightly edited pic to make you cum extra hard.
