Yes and no, there are differences between long term stocks and short term.
Always remember, playing any market: housing, stocks, savings etc is a gamble and as with all gambling don't put in more than you can afford to lose.
Anecdotally, we turned $20k into $300k in 10 years on housing. Buy the worst house in a good street. Do it up to the standard/above standard of the others. Allow the market to boom. Sell when high, buy when low. Take advantage of low interest rates by buying houses. Take advantage of high interest rates by using bank savings.
