I've never understood this in America. Why are we subsidizing the cost of an employees wage for the company simply because it's "customary." The guy is doing his job. He is getting paid a shit wage, and we as customer are expected to subsidize the criminally low amount of hourly pay being given to these workers by the companies they choose to work for. Restaurants know who tips and who doesn't, I can personally confirm this having worked in 2 restaurants. Especially for delivery boys, who sometimes get paid well less than minimum wage.
I've seen lists of priority delivery addresses, for people who aren't assholes and tip well. And people who are always assholes get treated with the least priority, because they know you're an asshole.
Even if you're all "blah blah my money" you should at least be able to understand that the benefits you receive for tipping are more than worth $3, like when your pizza arrives 25 minutes early.

Actually I was hired under the premis of being a delivery guy. And then found out it involved some dishes. Then some more cleaning, then cleaning the restrooms. Then after a month or two the boss needed me to scrub down the equipment because the guy that was supposed to do it didn't show. Then after 6 months he started having me do prep work like slicing veggies and bagging frozen stuffs. A year later I making stuffing the seafood stuffed mushrooms, frying up minor things and plating them, managing the counter and phones even though I can't use the register, and staying after to help the boss with throwing away giant junk he wants gone or dealing with heavy shit that needs to be hauled inside.
