Any Edh(Commander) players in here. Favorite general? Pic very related.
Recently made a mina and denn commander, so far they have to be one of my favorite commanders.
No, but if it doesn't specifically say cast then that means it cant be countered, but you would have to check it's oracle text to see if it still says "play"
Norrin, you couldn't hide forever.
You are wrong.
It has you cast the spell, it does not say anywhere that the spell cannot be countered.
>take card from graveyard
>move spell to stack
>pass priority, this is the bit where they decide to counter it or not
>spell either resolves or is countered, move spell to exile.
Have you been to /tg/? Everyone is a /b/tard you just have to keep your image posts sfw
>Omnath, Locus of Rage
I play mostly standard but I have designed a Commander deck. I got the idea from him sharing my name but spelled differently.
I use him and Lord of Extinction to kill everyone playing instantly.
Have her in my BBD (Big Black Deck)
Kalitas is dochuemode
The fact that he's self sustaining and anti-black makes him super viable in most formats imo
I don't think he'll see much play in Legacy, and I think he fell off after the ridiculous KtK removal rotated, but he does work in Jund.
Being one of the best creatures in the best modern deck means a lot.
Nigger did you just forget sensei's divining top and glimpse of nature?
I love this dude and i miss my deck so much
i sold all my cards a year ago now i have jack shit but slivers
any ideas on how to make a good deck with this guy?
One of the decks I posted on deckstats has zedruu. Also Zedruu is mad cheap, I bought mine for 50 dollars when it was really like 150 worth. Tossed some of my own stuff in there now it's past 200 I think. Cheaper than most commanders by a long shot.
Why do you all think of a fae tribal control deck with this gal as the commander? I don’t want to go with Oona as she tends to draw a good bit of hate.
Have Mayael, Oona, Kazuul, and Naihiri. Making Grixis good stuff next or Sharuum combo.
Too bad there are like 2 other players at my local card shop that play EDH...
Hanna's my girl. Most OP deck ever.
Claws of Gix FTW!
This bitch here completely changed my take on mono green. I constantly crush with her, and it’s a fun deck to pilot. Anyone else play her, or have played against her?
Fuck u and ur family, nothing personal but my ex friend played this card and thought he was the greatest player ever when he couldnt top a regionals for shit....and darkworlds in yugioh suck...rant over
Are you guys playing tiny leaders?
I just starting create 2 or 3 decks and, despite having ton of fun, considering tiny leader is THE format to create strange and specific mechanics, I'm afraid I wont play agaisnt a lot of people so I try to keep a low budget.
I don't go outside often and play the majority of time with a couple of my friends that don't play this format.
Should I go ape crazy on it and put money in the format?
>this guy is my all time favorite tiny leader
I run this as well with corpsekjack menace, doubling season, and primordial hydra.
Have other cards that let me search graveyard for any of those plus lots of elves and tokens.
Honestly I cant stand his RtR art, I think his I vs G looks far better.
I'm running this guy to stop my play group from infinite combos and what not.
Nicol Bolas for original Elder Dragon Highlander
I don't care I like it
Ghave guru if spores is my man. Most fun token deck ive ever played, pretty solid deck and win streak
Mono Green Heavy Hitter Deck, I get all the Chicks
pic related is definitely my favorite. Tribal rats totally takes people by surprise. After him would be Intet, the Dreamer. Nothing like paying three mana for a malestrom wanderer
Use permanents that effect everybody and that don't matter who own them like Howling Mine for example. Everybody draws two cards, but it doesn't matter who owns it. Then give people mean permanents like Aggressive Mining. Also permanents like Oblivion ring and Stasis snare are also nice to get rid of once you've used their effects.
He is and there are so many draw/hand cycle cards that can go with him. Use reliquary tower, no max hand size, draw a ton, then just keep cycling and making everyone draw cards equal to your hand
I run this every now and then. I sunk most of my money into making this deck. It's super fast, but I'm still looking for more cards to put into it.
Fuck yeah right? I pulled him out and somebody fogged. The dude I hit didn't have any blockers so his like went to one. He was so pissed off he used mana confluence just to leave the game. I equipped Master of cruelties with Whispersilk cloak and finished everybody else one at a time.
Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't exiling leaving play? So you try to exile the unearthed creature with deadeye but then that triggers the "if it would leave play" and it is completed exiled instead right?
one of the most fun commanders to play, and if you don't add in the instant win cards like an asshole, a really fun deck to play against
also this, such a fun deck. I ought to rebuild it.
He's better for support. Since they changed the ruling on his 2 damage every turn not being commander damage I saw no use for him. For red black I would probably use Rakdos Lord of Riots. He's useful for a good burn deck.
Sharuum is a superb Control lieutenant or general and is capable of chaining some of the best artifact combos in all of Magic.
I just finished making a deck with this guy. It runs very well. Especially with intruder alarm, manaweft/gemhide sliver along with hearthstone. You can play your whole deck out.
It really pisses my opponents off.
I'm building mogis deck and I like it. Makes you a big target (depending on how you play him and build the deck) though. He has to be dealt with early cause that's 2 life every turn. I mean some people can take it and stuff
I use a group slug deck though so it Makes games kinda quick
My first deck that I built myself. I started with the Ezuri premade deck and really liked Simic colors but didn't like the token beatdown. I'm constantly looking for new decks that win through alternate means, but Kruphix is just an all star when it comes to that. Mill opponents, Squall Line for their life total, put 100 counters into Helix Pinnacle right before the upkeep trigger, monstrosity a hydra into a 100/100 or gelatinous ooze for 50 50/50s. It's beautiful.
I like Alesha for this kind of shit, Master of Cruelties, Ebonblade Reaper, Raving Dead. Fun stuff
Dude, come on.
"Card sucks, dies to doomblade..." and the like arguments are fucking stupid.
Yes, magic cards have counters. We're discussing fun/useful commanders.>>700610143
Atm all the decks I have that are playable are Krenko, Arcum Dagsson, Gaddock Teeg, Kaalia, and Sliver Overlord. I had a Mikaeus the unfollowed deck with every infinite combo/ synergy you could think of that fit into mono black/artifacts. I took it apart because literally nobody wanted to play against it. Then I made a Zedruu the Greathearted deck that shut the table down.
All correct. Basically you drop pussyfoot goblin and an abusable etb, then you obliterate and friends until you grind out the game.
Karametra is my latest favorite commander. I made a "combo" deck with her that uses Amulet of Vigor and Glimpse of Nature plus shit loads of 1 and 2 drop green and white dorks to vomit 30 creatures in 5 turns and win with Epic Struggle. Faiths Reward and Second Sunrise are nice to prevent losing out to board wipes
>one of the most fun commanders to play, and if you don't add in the instant win cards like an asshole, a really fun deck to play against
>don't add in the instant win cards like an asshole
>playing good cards makes you an asshole
When will this meme die?
Get fuckin gud scrub. Run more removal or more counter magic and don't be a pussy. Its no ones fault but your own (on very rarely just bad luck) if you lose. Remember we aren't assholes for running good cards, your an just an idiot for not doing anything about it.
Every slot I have to dedicate to stopping you from winning in one turn is a slot I don't get to use on fun stuff for myself.
I wanna play a deck based around a random interesting legend, which I the whole damned point.
You wanna compare dicks over who can assemble a shitty 2-card lock, or who can get to X=lethal fastest.
I have a build for her...it's boring though. Also, it's too easy to shut down.
All you have to do is kill Kaalia and that's the end. If you can't get her out there's going to be nothing you can do til turn 5-6. Game is over by then.
So I recently built a deck around this guy as a casual deck and it actually fucking rocks. I've only played it like 3 times but twice I had a whole pod scoop against it.
There's a lot of fun with cards like Bazaar Trader, Birthing Pod, and Conjurer's Closet.
"Oh, cool Krenko deck! Let me try it!"
This guy is so underrated.
I did a Teysa/shadowborn deck...fucking amazing. fun as hell to play and wrecked shit.
Always has an answer, really interactive, has combos, control, early game, late game...so good.
Nah go ahead and call me new.
I'm here for 4 years now and lurked heavily for most of this time.
This is the second ever mtg thread I have seen.
Maybe I'm blind.
Doesn't change the fact that I would really love to see more mtg threads on here.
The place I live in very few people play, let alone know that this game exists.
Zedruu rhymes with waifu, and she is a gote, goats are cute.
She has some really fun infinites with Darkest Hour.
Even when all is said and done, having specific removal for Kruphix doesn't stop Kruphix. The deck doesn't need him to pilot it, it just helps. Not to mention that in a mana-focused Simic deck, you've probably ramped enough in 90% of your games to just recast him. If you're lucky enough to recast him at instant speed, all your opponent has done is waste 7 of your soon-to-be-near-infinite mana. Enchantment removal isn't so much a counter as a slight speed bump in a commander as passive as Kruphix.
Everyone can play hermit druid or doomsday. What's the fucking point?
This is why I/we don't play French. It's pointless to play one on one in a vintage format. It's simply broken. It's not about 'git gud' it's just 'who won the coin toss' or 'whose muligan went the best'. What's the fucking point.
It's much more interesting to see people play decks like Doran or Ruric than just degenerate shit like Kozilek or Braids.
You going to beat a fucking mono black contamination lock with a Skythrix general? Unlikely. Is that fun? No.
If ramping is that fantastical for a Simic midrange deck, then why is Kruphix not run in place of Momir Vig, Vorel, or either of the Ezuris?
All you have to do to outpace any ramp deck is to kills it commander 2-3 times. A landfall deck with something as expensive as Omnath, Locusof Rage could outpace that setup, even.
Olivia vampire tribal. Nothing spectacular, pretty damn casual with my friends, but it can be a real pain in the ass with the right set up. Basilisk collar makes her nasty, but removes the chance of taking your enemies goodies. Homeward Path would be a real pain in the ass if anybody actually bothered to run it in my group, but I have sack outlets anyway.
Combo isn't the only way win but it is effective. I always run tech against it and ways to deal with it. I have no problem with someone running same combos over and and over, makes it really easy to win the more games you play.
>Every slot I have to dedicate to stopping you from winning in one turn is a slot I don't get to use on fun stuff for myself.
Why can't you do both at the same time? Since when is jesterscapping your Buddy's win con not fun? How is countering a counter to your win con not sexy? Good cards can be fun to.
>I wanna play a deck based around a random interesting legend, which I the whole damned point.
And you can't use good cards because why? Vivictus asmadi (jund elder dragon) is fairly mediocre. But you can one shot a nigger after you k grip their sphere of safety just fine
>You wanna compare dicks over who can assemble a shitty 2-card lock
Lol only 2
or who can get to X=lethal fastest
Lol winning with damage
Alesha was one of my favorite commanders. I just donated it to my lgs so they could rent it out to people for tournaments. Still kept my Varolz, Sharuum, Arjun, Intent, Zada, and Drana decks left.
Disappointed to not see Sidisi, Brood Tyrant mentioned. I play a combo variant that also has some re-animator and zombie tribal going.
Yes, I sideboard in cards capable of dealing with indestructible shenanigans of all kinds because that's typically all that you ever need to sideboard in.
Indestructible =/= airtight.
I know how jace works.
Try to keep it on the table for more than one round in multiplayer edh. It's never worth the 4 you spent to cast it. You would always always rather have a UU cantrip. You'd get more value cause jace will be dead before the second effect goes off if not countered.
Like I said, it's just a bait card. EDH is not modern. 4 cmc is not that bad...it's not your powerhouse, it's a utility.
"I run at least three forms of indestructible enchantment removal in all of my decks, also I can protect my commander from any threat to not be outpaced"
First off, you're full of shit. Second, I've never met someone who's sideboarded in a casual format but I'm almost certain you have no friends.
Right...you mean like the black player who will just start blowing up your lands and emptying your hand while making you sac all your shit and beating you in the face while you have no mana?
Good luck casting a 7 cmc "remove a single card" spell.
Cards that let you have infinite hand size such as vensors journal spellbook or others really help. Some cards such as chrome crab and psychosis crawler are cool. Counters and board sweeps protect you and cards like dispersion field are pretty nice.
>the vintage is only combo/is a coin toss/turn one every game meme
Jesus Christ have you ever actually watched a vintage tournament? Its one of the healthiest and most varied formats in the game. Unlike the lol midrange only modern, rouge decks are much more common and effective. The only downside to vintage is price this is a separate issue all together and has no impact on actual play (or at least it shouldn't but hey gotta love reserved list)
>I like these generals but those other ones are too op
This is subjective. Very few generals are outright unfar/too stronk. Also you can always run cards that deal with these commanders instead of complaining. This is partially why I hate the new tuck rule (or lack there of) it used to be you had to plan for the super zur or rafiq deck and deal with it accordingly. Now there is so much less risk and far less need to protect them that it dumbs shit down more. Also fuck the new hard ban instead of banned as commander shit. I am tired of those pricks dumbing down the game
>dying to infect dragon.
Every color has spot removal and protection. Run it
Every mtg threads fate, hence why there isnt very many of them.
"Rock is best, because it beats scissors. "
"Dude, rock sucks, it loses to paper so fast."
"Y'all niggas posting in a scissors thread."
Anyone got rule 34 of any female planeswalkers?
13. Abilities which refer to other cards owned outside the game (Wishes, Spawnsire, Research, Ring of Ma'ruf) do not function in Commander without prior agreement on their scope from the playgroup.
Mediocre. No magic player worth his salt ever let's it live more than a turn or two. Its basically a 4 mana brainstorm on a very brittle stick. There is a reason it had fallen out of popularity.
My homeboy! Also have a competitive 5 color planeswalker deck. EDH and cube are the greatest formats for mtg in my opinion. Greatest form of expression.
This is not vintage.....this is 100 card singleton with a designated legend that you always have access to and a very small banned list like vintage.
Vintage allows for multiples of certain cards, a smaller deck, power, and no general. This is why it plays that way.
EDH has some degenerate shit happening still because of 1) the general 2) terribly random access to fast mana and 3) completely unbalanced access to fast tutoring/card access
None of those things are a problem when you can splash some black to tutor or just throw in a mental misstep and where everyone has access to consistently fast mana.
Made a sidisi 4 horseman style combo deck one time. It was very good but became boring to play if you actually go through the motions. My playgroup was a good sport about it and understood that once it went off it was gg. Explaining how it worked and then showing it was tedious. Very fun to build and to see work and very consistent but meh to play.
Honestly the meanest commander I've ever played against aside from Arcum Dagsson and Narset.
You are the one who brought up vintage in the first place.... Any way
Again.... Do something about muh degenerate combos instead of complaining. My group has multiple 2-4k decks and few hundred dollar decks and sub $100 decks. They all can play against each other fine because our decks change to suite our meta. Run removal, run counters, don't be a bitch.
Are you trying to win or prolong the game? Group hug and chaos are fine if they are using them as a means to an end. But he he XD lol random and turbo hug are cancer. They turn an hour long game into a 3 hour long grind fest. Also if it just becomes 2 vs. X kingmaker at some point and that isn't fun for anyone
>5 color planeswalker
I'm curious about this. I have fount that these decks have difficulty dealing with resource denial or especially aggressive decks. What do you do to deal with these?
The donate strats everyone is suggesting aren't that fun in practice.
You should a use land walk theme instead, so even when zedruu gets picked off, land walkers can steamroll players you gave islands to
I don't remember the commander but just wanted to say I actually lost to Door to Nothingness once.
Was impressed actually that he got all the mana needed into play.
You can build zedruu however you want, but in my experience donate-zedruu turns into defining a ton of rules/triggers through donated anti-bombs which leads to you getting focused down immediately.
At best your games turn into prison, where you draw and gain so much life that you're just sifting through wincing
At worst you have a hand full of bullshit and need to wait until you can get zedruu back to life again
positive "politics" becomes harder and no one trusts you after the first Grandeur win
I love my zedruu deck but my friends don't, so it goes, I'm just suggesting that trying a more unique twist on the Zedruu archetype can be political but less clunky and much less maligned
Right now I've got
Braids, Conjurer Adept(self explanatory).
Reaper King. I wanted to do 3 different decks. 5 color good stuff, something tribal, and something that fucks a lot of shit up. So I mixed them in here.
Rhys, the Redeemed(Check out my list on tappedout.net "Rhys Redeems Himself by Token Up") kek
I love playing Marath but I switched it up to good ole Mayael of the Anima.
I have and play many, some of which are listed here. Sliver overlord, olivia voldaren, scion of the ur dragon, krenko, karona the false god, thassa, ezuri, oona, animar.
But this nigga right here has got to be my favorite. Strap some lightning greaves on him and cast finest hour and watch the fun ensue
My favorite thing is stocking the deck with ways to make him a one shot falcon punch
>a guy has a stax deck
>no real win condition, just delays the game by 3 whole hours
>the "group hug" guy
>doesn't understand that all he's doing is letting the mono blue guy get infinite mana so he can cast fucking capsize all game
>either dead on draw or combos out so hard you can't do shit to stop it
>it's a RUG deck episode
Reminder than Commander is meant to be played with friends because it's a busted as fuck format.
Anyone who plays EDH competitvely should seek help for their autism.
might of oaks can make him a 1 hit kill, quietus spike makes them drop from 40 to 9 in one swing. There are some other fun interactions you can do like umezawa's jitte, sword of war and peace, sword of feast and famine, etc.
who the fuck even plays grasp in edh? Most peoples outs are going to be toxic deluge, black sun zenith, all is dust, or edicts effects assuming they even have them; if that's enough to dissuade you from a fun and powerful commander like Zurgo then that's your mindbogglingly stupid prerogative.
I made a casual deck that uses Galvanic Alchemist, Axebane Guardian, and a bunch of fucking walls to make infinite mana to cast anything. The win cons I put in just for the fucking keks are Fireball, Helix Pinnacle, Door to Nothingness, and I think some other weird ass card... Anyways, it's fucking hilarious
I'm wanting them to revisit him with a Conspiracy set or something. He's dead but if they could do a block that took place before all the shit that went down in the story that'd be cool. Or just make him in a Conspiracy.
These are my EDH decks.
Omnath is "ALL THE MANA" deck
Lazav is graveyard trickery
Mogis is my newest, and is just a pile of old stupid enchantments like Pandemonium and Endless Whispers.
Tromo is a mono-blue Tromo deck
Omnath and Lazav are the better decks, Mogis is the fun deck and Tromo needs a little tweaking to work better.
It is. But the deck I run it in is kind of a dick, swords to plowshares, path to exile, lots of board wipe. So just a little unfun. fun for me though
Also he has no protection, no hexproof or shroud, so people can kill spell him all day. So I guess that much is fair
I also really like things like noble hierarch, propaganda, rhystic study in the deck. Lots of value for not much mana
I play a child of alara charms deck and my wincons are progenitus and door to nothingness
basically just stall with you're 40 + charms and then finish with door, also goes nice with this evil thing
