As far as planets go, it's fine, but the animals and plants (especially the plants) end up looking identical, as well as the structures and alien npcs. You can name the same fucking rock on every planet you land on, and there's little to actually explore. Caves are barren and the planet surfaces are littered with the same minerals, the only variation in climates don't matter because for each hazard they play exactly the same: simply refill your life support and hazard protection suit constantly no matter what the different thing it is you're facing. As for space itself: it's fucking empty.

Eh I dunno if I agree. I raid ships for materials all the time. It's fast and easy. My boyfriend sucks at flying the ships, but it came easily to me. I've been waiting for this for years. Friday at 5:59pm me and my best bud were sat here waiting. Wife pre-warned this weekend was a pure gaming bonanza.
My bud left here about 2 hours ago to head on home so he can have a good kip and get some needful weekend stuff done but you know what? Been fucking great.
I've made a point of not overhyping this in my head and frankly - 've paid my Star Citizen dues, I have two EVE accounts on the run and I like Elite too (though I don't own Horizons yet) and specifically the exploring facets of EVE and Elite.
PERSONALLY I feel this has brought something to the table none of the aforementioned have - and you know what? NO I can't tell you what. But me and my bud racked up 23 hours between 6pm Friday and now. And its been some of the best fucking quality time I've been able to spend with him since fucking Uni.
We've had a good laugh exploring, we might have tapped out a lot of the tech tree already but so the fuck what? It actually became amusing how little new tech we were finding after a while cause when we found the shittest NEW little bit of tech we'd fucking shout out and laugh about it.
Elite looks better than this? Can't agree with that. I spent a good long time travelling in that, didn't quite reach the center but got close you know? And the planets were boring as hell. Just coloured marbles practically. But thats just my opinion so *shrugs*
Seriously though, 23 hours in and for this weekend? I've been very glad to pay that £40. I'm still enjoying it now and I've paid as much for games I've ended up enjoying less from big companies. That Hello Games have achieved this - albeit with some fuckups along the way - has been great.

Honestly it reminds me of like mine craft mixed with space engineers and idk what else. It's really a niche game imo. I don't drink or smoke anymore but i think that it would fit that mindset very wel. It's a very relaxed game. I love reading lore and learning the languages and finding ships and blowing stuff up. The "craft to explore to craft to explore" thing never bothered me because I love games like that. People say the planets are just pallete swaps but I haven't experience is. I'm 30+ hours in and haven't found a similar planet yet, though after watching my boyfriend play his second planet was a little like my first. Honestly it's a game where you make your own fun. Idk if you've ever played The Forest but it's that kind of mindset kind of. Just not as much shit trying to kill you (so far anyway, I'm exploring off the atlas path so I'm going all over the place and haven't even gotten close to the center because it's not my goal).
Honesty anon if exploring and learning and just experiencing the world, getting lost in it, etc. aren't your thing, my suggestion would be to borrow a copy or buy it and then return it if you don't like it. I play it on ps4 and haven't had nearly as many issues as some people are reporting. Only two crashes. Both after I left the game in rest mode over a few hours.
I really like it. It's worth it to me. I can't tel you how to spend your money though.

I feel like people had their own magical expectations over what they imagined what was in their dream game and obviously that was never going to match up to expectations.
