oh...yeah I live in a country where it's "oh you may be sick, lets run a whole battery of tests plus optional ones if you like" followed by "looks like it's just something simple but you also have low vitamin D, spend more time in the sun but other wise you are fine" and it tops off with a bill of $0.00

only down side is unless your life is in danger or you have an appointment you will probably be there for a few hours, which i'm ok with, I would rather the doctors spend more time on people who are really sick or injured than me when I'm in no immediate danger.

Canada is nice but it's not without it's faults, again wait times in our healthcare is a problem, especially if you need an MRI, like, unless you have a brain injury average waiting time for an MRI is like 8 months - 2 years here, it sucks, we also have a problem with doctors moving to the US to make more money but hopefully we can get more of both and smooth things out in the future.

Anecdotal evidence is not applicable, really. He's just with a shit doctor. Also insurance should offer a co-pay, often a full pay depending on what needs to be done.

Just reading that makes my blood boil. But at least your country cares about your people, even if you do have to wait ridiculously long for something.

You won't. The doctors, nurses, nurses aids, etc won't get paid enough by the government to have enough people willing to help staff the place. Especially specialty places that would have an MRI scanner. Plus there would be less equipment. My hospital I worked at had like 4 or 5 MRI machines, which for the size of the hospital was pretty impressive.

yeah our government generally does care, our infrastructure is well maintained and our leaders know they are on a leash held by the people most of the time, like we don't really have set elections (kind of), basically the prime minister will stay in power until the people stop liking them and call an election at any time, like the conservatives did put in a 4 year election cycle but elections can be held at any time and their is not set max limit for the prime minister, so basically they will stay in power as long as they don't piss us off.

Like Harper, he was in power for a while, did stuff that pissed everyone off, election was called, hes now jobless.

I don't know man, I got family living down in the U.S. and this topic always pops out whenever we get to talk. I don't think 60% of the medical personel's shit but expensive as hell. Considering most of the situations where my cousin had to stop at the ICU because of his asthma, the fees are never below a grand or so

Our country cares about it's people, our government doesn't. The Canadian government doesn't either. Up to two years for an MRI is ridiculous. I can schedule one a week from now at the latest. If you need an important scan, you could very well have something hidden away that will kill you before you're ever treated.
>>696468701
Ah, well that will do it. It would be a sound investment to get it. Though I certainly understand it's not as easily done as it is said.

That's the ICU. The people who work there generally work incredibly stressful 12-18 hours shifts, and are extensively trained. That training costs money, the schooling costs money, and so the medical personnel earn more respectively.
>>

you can get a next day MRI scan in Canada you just need to pay for it, so getting a next day MRI in Canada is like getting a normal one in the US.
>>
>>696469366

Hence, it costs more to be treated there. Same reason Neurosurgeons make more than regular surgeons, who make more than traditional doctors, who make more than nurses, etc.

yeah, the difference is you can get the MRI for free if you are willing to wait, it's kind of dumb, other countries have more and offer free MRI scans for far shorter waiting periods, if the machines weren't so expensive it wouldn't be that big an issue.

Really, the better solution is better handling of insurance in the US, as opposed to freeing the healthcare. Better access to insurance without making it so bad that it would put insurance companies out of business, etc. The whole subject really teeter's on a razor's edge tbh.

There really isn't. Some folks are going to like one thing, some folk are going to like another. I prefer the american healthcare system because it hasn't fucked me over as of yet. And that's generally how I choose to judge things. If they don't totally bone me, they're innocent enough to me until they do. Obviously, that's not gonna work for everyone else, cause what works for me might ramrod someone else.

my biggest problem is some doctors are payed to push the brand names of some medications instead of the cheaper generic ones, because medication isn't covered here under the base healthcare (insurance covers it however but still).

luckily the times ive been given prescriptions I usually get the generic brands because my doctor is a cool guy. They are working to fix it but it's slow, luckily the conservatives are out so change is actually happening instead of just empty promises.

it was scary for a while there it was looking like Canada was going to turn into a UK conservative clone.

generally Canadian left and right are relatively the same and are far less extreme than US left and right, but the Right here has started getting more extreme as of late.

One of the things that pissed everyone off was a couple years ago the oil companies started paying people off to slow climate research and the result was the conservative party passed legislation that made it illegal for scientists to release info before clearing it with the government first basically muzzling Canadian scientists and restricting information flow to what they deemed appropriate, of course climate science got hit the most as a result and everyone knew it was corporate corruption at the root.

When the Liberals took over one of the firth things they did was shred that legislation and vote it out as it was clearly the result of shady shit.

then our Prime minister bumped a woman with his elbow as he man handled a guy and the woman complained to get attention and it was all rather pathetic as everyone handled it badly.
