If you subtract the number of gun deaths in the US that are caused by illegal guns we have an EXCEPTIONALLY low fatality rate.
Now on to Gun Control. In DC, it is illegal to even posess an empty shell casing for a gun that you are not legally registered to own in the city of DC. If you are not a resident of DC, you may not own a firearm. If you ARE a resident, you must pass a background check, wait several weeks, pay $450 for a handgun worth of fingerprinting, paperwork, registration fees, etc, and then if you are approved, it may be kept locked up and unloaded in your home, ONLY.
In MD, you may not purchase any handgun or AR style long gun with a pistol grip (and various other random long guns that have be arbitrarily designated as dangerous) without a fingerprint card, background check, NICS check, 7 day wait, transfer fee, and bill of sale. If you gun is stolen and a crime is committed with it, you are held criminally liable.
Virtually 0% (in the case of PA in 2015, actually 0% of gun crimes) are committed with LEGALLY acquired guns.

First, most robbers don't have guns. In the 34 years I've lived in Chicago, I've been the subject of three attempted muggings. Not one of them had a gun. One did have a knife, though, and drawing a weapon dissuaded him.

In what world are "chinese" or east-asian cultures not antithetical? We are all very different peoples, with different ways of life, etc.
Even the many cultures that make up Europe would be considered antithetical to anyone who took the time to study the differences.
AND we have natives here. Who we oppressed, who we try to reconcile with today. We are often the first nation to take in refugees from any conflict, even against popular opinion.
I wouldn't trust an American social studies class as far as I could throw one of it's students.
