What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.

I came from a poor family, had to take out massive loans for med school (despite going to a state university in my own home state), so I'm just under $300,000 in debt. I'll either be staying in my home state after residency if I can get into a loan forgiveness program up here (must work for a non-profit hospital, which is kinda hard to find) and make about $300-350K/year, or if I can't find an eligible hospital for loan forgiveness, I'll be moving down to the deep south and make $400-500K/year while trying to pay my loans off within 5 years.

I know you're clearly very well-versed on the topic of physician salaries, but that average is heavily weighted to the left based on who actually takes the time to respond to those surveys (usually ER docs in academics) and large cities that hire disproportionate amounts of ER doctors for cheap.

Do more googling and you'll see a huge range of numbers based on where they get their data.

Meanwhile and more importantly, I've talked to most of the recently-graduated former 3rd year residents, and they've confirmed that if they work in a community hospital in a medically under-served area, they're getting offered starting salaries anywhere from $300-500K/year depending on the part of the country.

I know a chief neurosurgeon who signed a contract for a job at a relatively small community hospital in upstate NY for 1.1 million a year, starting. Look up what the "average salary" is for neurosurgeons, it's a pretty big difference.

And for more proof of how unreliable those numbers are, do a quick google search of "er physician jobs in mississippi" or georgia or whatever deep south state you want, and look at some of the starting salaries being offered.

Here's one from EDphysician dot com
"ID: 2094
Location: MISSISSIPPI
NEW unbeatable opening with a very successful long-standing private group in a beautiful community near the Gulf Coast!
This is a diverse & experienced emergency medicine team who are very open and democratic. They have enjoyed stability & success for many years providing care in a large, modern award winning ED which sees a full range of patient cases and have recently decided to bring on one new member due to an increase in acuity. This group has had zero turnover in nearly six years which speaks volumes about the quality of this opportunity. Constant overlapping physician coverage, a full range of specialties in-house, hospitalists admitting patients, a dedicated trauma team and a very strong nursing staff allow the physicians to have an enjoyable pace of practice. Compensation is outstanding with bonuses that put overall income in the $450,000-$500,000 range PLUS comprehensive benefits and generous retirement contributions in addition the first year! "

UPSTATE NY though, not NYC. Upstate NY has a notoriously low cost of living. I interviewed at residency programs in Buffalo, Syracuse, and Rochester, and all of the residents and program directors really talked up how cheap the cost of living in those cities were.

And NYC doctors actually get paid relatively shitty salaries for the cost of living, plus long island has some of the highest insurance premiums (but that's a bit misleading because those are paid by the hospital 90% of the time and not the actual physician).

>>
>>694990229

Yeah very true, but only to an extent. It's a shared cost to all employees of the hospital, so they're gonna deduct a certain amount from all employees and all budgets within the hospital.

But I've seen a lot of jackasses say that an OB/GYN physician on long island or in NYC makes $250K/year but only sees $50-100K of it because the insurance premiums are $150-200K, and that's just horseshit. The advertised salaries are the salaries they make after the insurance premiums, not before.

>>694997676
yeah I'd like to but it's hard when you don't have someone already there you can crash with or a lot of money saved up or a job already lined up you know?

I've actually tried this a couple times before but could only find part time minimum wage work and ended up semi-homeless

Well really we don't do traditional blacksmith work anymore. I work for a Class 1 railroad and it's the old union title that came about back in the 1800's. I went to school for welding after I graduated high school though, then got 5 years experience as a welder, machinist and maintenance worker in a fabrication shop. As a boilermaker/blacksmith at the railroad we just cut, heat, shape and weld metal to modify and repair locomotives. We have a track at our facility called the Wreck Track where crashed locomotives come to get rebuilt like new. Honestly I was super lucky to end up where I am now. I first interviewed with them and got hired on as a general laborer (wash locomotives and drive fork lifts). There were about 25 people at the interview session and they told us over 400 applied for the job. I had to work as a laborer for a year and a half before getting 'set up' and switching to my current craft.

life guard is about as good as it gets for under 18. At that age it's good to have something simple but requires a hurdle such as first aid certification.

Basically the best advice I can give you is to do your best at work and each job you get will be better than the last. In my case: subway, mowing yards, cook at bar, research assistant, intern.
