This is the first time I've drank these in a long time, but when I was 15-16 I drank them religiously because they're so cheap. They were $1.20ish back in the day, $1.90 now. I actually had quite a few hospital visits because of it. Typically when it's hot out I walk around barefoot at my house, whether I'm in the house, garage or my yard. Not all of them have a higher ABV, but I've noticed quite a few that do. Some even in the 7-8% range, but still, most malt liquor and high gravity lagers have the same ABV and are much cheaper.
Also, I've seen a lot of craft brews that go for $15+ for a six pack, where your generic beers are about $20 or less for a 30.
15 5% alcohol beers for ~$10 will definitely get me drunker than six 7% beers for ~$15.
I can drink all night, downing a bunch of beers isn't a problem to me. I prefer liquor for the fact that I don't actually have to drink as much, but I really don't have an issue with downing 15-20 beers either.

That means where I'd be getting 6 bud light bottles at $12 (canada is basically prohibition) I'd be paying roughly $14-$16 for the local craft brews. The great thing is that the breweries have this as a fixed price between their different offerings, so even if one beer is 8% abv instead it's still the same cost as the rest. And that particular one is good, a deep roasty flavour to that stout.
And you'll get fucked fast.
