But why had Amethyst looked so disgusted when she finished? Wasn't this what she wanted? Pearl didn't understand, she thought Amethyst would be happy to finally engage in sex with her, instead she looked down at Pearl with disdain and ordered her to leave.

"It's a beautiful sunset. Not a cloud in the sky." observed Steven. Pearl said nothing in response.
"...You and the other gems haven't been acting right lately. I never see you any more. It's like you all just stay in your rooms." Pearl's heartbeat accelerated. She couldn't tell Steven the truth, no matter how badly she wanted to confide in someone. That was out of the question.

"Things are just... complicated right now, Steven." Pearl said nervously.
"I thought Garnet forgave you. Or, I at least thought you were talking again! For a few days after you formed Sardonyx to escape that trap, it was like everything was back to normal. Now you all hide from each-other in your rooms all day and I never see any of you! What's going on?"
Steven was pushing the issue and Pearl was paralyzed with uncertainty. She wanted him to drop it. She wanted to come up with some excuse for their behavior. She wanted to tell him the truth. She wanted him to go back to his room and forget this whole thing. She wanted everything to go back to normal. She wanted to run away and never come back. She wanted to die.
She wanted all those things at once, and at the same time, none of them. It was then she realized what she really wanted. She wanted Rose.
"... Pearl? Are you ok? You're shaking, and you're breathing really weird."
She wanted Rose. She wanted Rose to be here so badly. She wanted Rose to hold her tight and make all the bad thoughts go away, like she used to. She wanted to feel her arms around her, to feel safe in her embrace. She wanted to rest her head on Rose's chest and cry for hours. She wanted to be called "My Pearl" as a term of endearment, not ownership. She wanted to hear Rose's soothing voice whispering sweet nothings to her as she stroked her hair. She wanted Rose to protect her from Garnet and Amethyst. She wanted to hear Rose laugh again. She wanted Rose. She wanted Rose. She wanted--
