Because in the United Kingdom unless you're in a gang or you're involved with organised crime it's more than likely that you will go through your entire life without ever seeing a gun more powerful than air rifle.

There are more practical firearms to go with than the USP. Granted, yes, they ARE sexy (I have one myself) for a defense pistol, I would instead recommend the Springfield XDM in either .40 or .45, OR the Taurus Judge line of firearms. The Springfield XD line is VERY reliable, VERY easy to take down and clean and care fore, NEVER jams, NEVER has feed issues.
The Taurus Judge can either use .45LC rounds OR .410 Shotgun shells. Your choice.
