You don't have to get a lot of training to become a psychologist. Psychiatrists, on the other hand, who are the people who can prescribe medication, aren't typically. Btws if you get diagnosed with something it isn't always you HAVE to take medication. It is almost always up to the patient. The majority of people who get diagnosed with milder mental disorders usually just do talk therapy.
