You're wrong. He never travels back in time. Actually, he never leaves the house to avoid the turbine accident. Whole movie is about fantasy of some kind where main character gets a another change to live his life differentely. He is pictured as shy and lonely, but after escaping the turbine he starts doing shit he woudn't have never ever done: asking a girl out, messing with the school he hates, standing up for his opinions and along the movie he tries to study time travelling, just to find a way to change what is going to happen after the given time is used. In the end of the movie it's discovered thet he can't change it and his death is inevitable.
