well if someone refers to 'understanding' i dont mean to be able to follow its content which should be mandatory anyways but to understand what the film wants to be.

for example everyone can follow the storyline of 2001, but when people complain about long periods of silence, an ending that doesnt explain everything etc they just didnt understand.

I'm 24, and was once in the barns and noble video section. 2 employees about twice my age were talking about how they liked interstellar but nothing about the ending made sense. Me, a young neckbeard, had to teach them about a movie that as you said "explains everything", yet somehow these 50 year old movie buffs didn't even get it. So there is some misunderstanding when it comes to this movie even if it does spell it all out in neon letters.

It's only "cringy" to edgy surface issue fags that can't get into exposition and abstract thinking. Scientists said this is the most accurate film to represent how another dimension would look if it were created by a human.
>>
>>691087499
>>691087499

People should read books sometimes.

Movies are great for entertainment, and even for opening up the mind to concepts previously unheard of, but all in all, every movie in this thread has been a book before.

>>691087905

even some of Hollywoods greatest movie flops were great books once, for example, pic related, absolutely abhorrent movie, but the book was one of this centuries greatest with an ending no one could have predicted.

well for me books and movies are just two different media to transport some message. and for some message one can be a lot better than the other or even not suitable at all. look at ulysses - you could make a movie out of it, but it would basically boil down to 5 yours of inner monologue, which doesnt use the advantages of being a movie at all. on the contrary, a book about spirited away can never capture the visuals which are very important for its concept.

People that age learned from star trek and star wars where those rules do not apply.
40 years ago when they where in school no one was taught about mass + energy = time, time on a planet goes fast compared to time away from large mass.

Best way to move into the future. I think Nambadi(?), that vertical orbit planetoid is said to be a travelers planet , 15 years on that is 3,000 years for us until the planetoid re enters the solar system.

That's not the point asshole.
Stanley Kubrick made art out of something. He saw how a story could be used as a metaphor to explain the things he's done in his life, and how they've split him into 2 different people. Which is Jack and Danny. Jack is the guy the industry made Stanley into. Danny is the sweet kid surrounded by the monster he becomes. The movie cryptically explains his involvement with the moon landings and other events he thinks ruined his life and Americas history.

It was artsy, I don't think that's the same as being pretentious. The film was about good people ending up in really bad places. The only drug I take is caffeine, and I thought it was a great movie, so simply elegant and sad.

You're the one making a big deal out of "understanding" a simple movie that was made to reach a wide audience.

It's simply true that there was nothing "hard to understand" in Interstellar, so why make such a big deal out of it, if you're not just looking for attention like 12 year olds?

you really dont understand the movie industry do you? films that were made for wide audiences ARE easy to understand. you cant say its a simple movie made for a large audience because that would imply there are hard movies made for large audiences, which do not exist

The fact that you can't spell completley when trying to sound like you're smart for thinking a movie (that scientists have said is accurate) is dumb because you have an inability to comprehend the whole picture of something is why your opinion really doesn't matter much.
>>
>>691087109
it's confusing at first but imo whether or not you 'get' it has more to do with how much attention you pay rather than how smart you are.

>>
>>691090962
>see that my comment was about people thinking they are smart, which they are not
That's why I said "you're the one riding on a high horse". You see yourself as smarter than the rest of us simply because we don't share your vision of a specific movie being hard to understand. Saying it out loud means nothing more than just that, there was nothing hard to understand in Interstellar. If you get so pissy over someone saying that and right off the bat say they "didn''t understand it", it's obviously because you feel hurt over the fact that they're simply smarter than you are.

Yeah, I don't expect you to understand. I'm just a kind person I suppse.

It's been a while since I've seen it so correct me if I'm wrong, but there is one linear narrative that involves a reporter investigating Kane by talking to the people who knew him, which is interspliced with non-linear flashbacks of Kane's life right? So yeah, a step up from most films in terms of storytelling complexity, but I don't think it's prohibitive to the average audience.

As for a revolutionary use of formal techniques, I'm genuinely not sure how that would make it harder for people to understand it.

You're wrong. He never travels back in time. Actually, he never leaves the house to avoid the turbine accident. Whole movie is about fantasy of some kind where main character gets a another change to live his life differentely. He is pictured as shy and lonely, but after escaping the turbine he starts doing shit he woudn't have never ever done: asking a girl out, messing with the school he hates, standing up for his opinions and along the movie he tries to study time travelling, just to find a way to change what is going to happen after the given time is used. In the end of the movie it's discovered thet he can't change it and his death is inevitable.
