God-Tier Horror movies
The misses and I need to add some films to our queue.
This a good one.

Excellent. Also pic related.
>>691009253
1982's The Thing.
>>691009726
Awesome movie
I'm assuming this one's already under your belt.
Another. I loved this movie as a kid because of the monster gore. Currently available on Netflix!

>>691009726
this movie really fucking scared me, one of my biggest fears is home invasion
>>691010224
Saw this, really well made.
>>691010264
The elevator blood scene(s) were probably the most unsettling visual in the movie - for me at least. The Shining is amazing.
>>691010402
OP here, what is that?
Clive barker MasterRace
>>691010233
hipster piece of shit (to the poster, not the movie)
>>691009483
I'm perfectly fine with people generally not liking Hostel, and it's quite gross more than anything, but one scene in it that stuck with me was later in the movie when one of the antagonists talk unknowingly to the main character, thinking he's one of them.
Without spoiling, despite this character being minor, it is how he acts, and the things he asks that solidify what makes the movie disturbing.
>>691010264
I can't take this movie seriously because of how hilariously abysmal Shelly Duval's acting is.
>>691011216
We fucking love the hostel movies - OP
Anyone here a fan of Session 9?
Not jump-outta-your-seat
but it's got atmosphere.
>>691011485
Takes as many guts to admit as it took to make the movie.
Many think they are just gore-fest. That or I'm in the wrong crowd.
>>691011707
I watched that some time ago, I thought it was alright.
only movie i felt was scary was when i was 9 i think, i wasnt 9 when it came out. it was just rented. after that no "scary" movies seemed scary :(
>>691009483
The fact that I didn't have to post this makes me happy.
>>691012393
OP here, you're welcome sir.
Here's another one that has extremely mixed reviews.
As a fan of the games, I am ready to both defend it and mark it's limitations.
>>691010224
I'M SO GOD DAMN HUNGRY!!
Totally hawt...
>>691012680
Tell me more...
>>691013604
it's from V/H/S, which honestly I thought was meh at best
Loved this one.
God-tier scary movie thread huh? Hmm...
Spielberg's Best
Half Slasher Movie,
half Adventure Movie
Just fucking hum a couple of bars of the John Williams score when I'm so much as in the bathtub and you will be peeling me off the ceiling.
>>691014309
We saw that movie early, wasn't so good.
>>691014309
1/10
>>691014309
I think the initial build-up was really good. Especially the scene where she's reading the book.
Second half really disappointed me.
>>691009959
This movie has something the vast majority of horror movies don't have.
An amazing plot.
Even if it wasn't scary at all, the plot is phenomenal enough for it to be a great movie.
spooky af
>>691009483
kk angstaanjagend
>>691015067
the blood test scene made me jump.
>>691014732
Curious as to why you didn't like this, I thought it was great. Created a long, drawn out sense of dread and slow-burning fear. The ending was kind of lame but other than that, it deeply distressed me the entire time
>>691015810
I haven't seen it but isn't the ending some type of bs "power of love" that doesn't fit in with the rest of the movie.
>>691012038
I second this, it's also a mindfuck.
This one is pretty good too. 'It Follows''
>>691016165
I mean the whole film is essentially focused on her relationship with her son, with The Babadook monster sort of being a real-life manifestation of all the secret taboo feelings of loathing and resentment she has for him. So the ending is sort of a resolution to her getting that shit in check by dealing with the monster. It works for the film perfectly, but it isn't a good "horror" movie ending.
>>691016621
It follows was really good, the bedroom scene with the huge tall guy made me flip shit in the middle of the theater.
>>691016621
I liked this a lot. Saw it in theaters, didn't know what to expect, but was not disappointed.
>>691010233
Masterpiece.
Anybody want to make a stream so we can have movie night?
We can all act like niggers in the lobby.

Is it true that like 1950's korean horror films are the scariest ever made?

The last 20 minutes isn't great, but everything before that is one of the best horrors I've ever seen. Straight anxiety enducing.

its an okay movie but i dont thinks scary at all, just disturbing
First hour is terrible, last 20 minutes makes it worth it.
>>691014400
Holy shit yes. Jaws is and will forever remain my favorite movie. Also, checked.
>>691020094
The second is better
>>691020152
Nope. Delightful little scare-fest. Simple, relatable plot presented well. You should figure out what makes a good movie good.
>>691020279
It's not remotely underrated: it's a horror classic.
>>691014899
the alien jump scare scared me as a kid but the whole movie doesnt make sense cos of the water alien shit. Just think of the aliens as demons and it makes it so much better

Prince of Darkness. Keep in mind, takes place before 1997.
>>691020876
a lot of people my age (20) either don't know what it is or think its shit cos no cgi bollocks
>>691009959
Thanks. The Thing sets the bar for God-tier imo. Fuck all these haunting horror movies.. give me trapped people in a room who don't know which one the alien is. God I want your babies

Fucked up movie
original first is good, the second is just weird and trying too hard i think
A lot of people say it's overrated, but it's definitely one of the best serial killer movies.
>>691021886
What is that? Schoolboy Q?
>>691021175
Sure, don't make up your own mind. Be led like a fool. It's a simple and entertaining story; nothing more or less, not presumptive. Anyone who couldn't enjoy it either requires gore to be scared or doesn't actually enjoy horror movies.
>>691021003
I'd fuck her.
>>691021597
when I went to watch that at the theatre a chick fell asleep during the entire movie
>>691022050
The It movie was meh. Tim Curry was good as Pennywise, but I wouldn't consider it a really scary movie or anything.
>>691022025
Strange circus
>>691021213
Such a ridiculously fun series of small bits that come together in a shitload of nostalgia from when I was a kid. It scared me a bit back then; now it's a really fun watch.
>>691022051
I think you're standards are perhaps just a bit lower than others...
The Cell
>>691021912
Overrated? It got terrible reviews.
Not horror, but "The Passion of Joan of Arc" was pretty fucked up. I remember it coming on the TCM channel one day and I just had to keep watching.
>>691022150
The Taking of Deborah Logan. God awful film, predictable with zero scares and no creep factor
>>691021597
I'll agree. If you don't understand Spanish, you can still probably get English subs. Not a bad zombie flick. Way better than the remake Quarantine.
If you liked Rec then give this a shot. Slow start but worth it imo.
>>691022344
Of course. I call you an idiot because you're an idiot, but no, it must be my low standards. Whatever idiocy you need to tell yourself. You're still the faggot who cannot make up his own mind about a movie. Pretty simple task. You're the type who wear a buttplug at all times because at any time some big buck nigger may want to take your ass and you don't want to disappoint. I've gone way too far with the insult, but you get the point I'm sure - make up your own mind, ya dummy.

This. I love Catholic horror movies. Old school actors like George C. Scott that knew how to act and a perfect representation of a psychopath

There was a doom movie tho. It was shit.
worth watching once, used to be on youtube but i can't find it anymore

>>691024898
Hey I love Brosnan. I didnt know about this film. Is it on netflix?
The first Alien movie scarred me for life.
>>691025286
it's an amazing sci-fi movie
>>691014309
that movie was absolute sheisse
>>691021676
Haven't seen something that fucked up since.
this shit gave me nightmares when i first saw it
>>691022272
That movie was so goddamn disappointing compared to the book.
Fog 1980 ain't scary for oldfags, but it's on par for being a scary movie for young children. Movies like Poltergeist, Suspiria and old slashers of the era.
>>691026548
Pretty sure you can apply that to any movie based on King's horror novels.
>>691017246
That's where you fucked up. The trailer really ruins the movie
>>691022853
Ayyyyyyyy I'm glad I wasn't the only one that saw that. It wasn't bad
>>691026870
Thought that said "Hotdog" in the thumbnail and now I'm disappointed
>>691026947
even The Shining?
>>691025864
Agreed. Much more accurate sci-fi than the tripe produced lately. Still scary as fuck.
>>691027050
Definitely a gem in the found footage genre considering how shit most of 'em are.
>>691017488
The first one is sad as shit dude
>>691027181
Definitely The Shining. Horrible adaptation that absolutely spits on the source material. If anyone other than Kubrick had been attached to that film it'd be regarded as the piece of shit it really is.
>>691015017
now that i'm older this movie is kinda cringy tbh fam
>>691027392
Yeah King agrees. So much so that he made his own tv adaptation.
>>691027641
Unfortunately for King he can't do tv/film scripts, his version wasn't much better. The biggest problem is that King's narratives focus so heavily on what people are thinking and feeling, it really makes that hard to translate efficiently to film.
>>691027641
and it sucked
>>691015425
Its execution, atmosphere and the general plot is simply unique. I love it. One of my favs. Been trying to find similar movies. Especially set in space but nothing that even comes close. Got any suggestions?
>>691024173
>>691024370
It's a true story
the gingerdead man. pretty spooky.
>>691016621
Honestly, idk why people praise this piece of shit, they completely ruined what could have been a good concept with how they started hunting "it"
they had a good psychological horror movie where you can never relax and that alone would drive you to the breaking point but then once others could interact with it it turned to crap.
the scene that built the whole "never relax" moment the best was when they were all sitting in a circle and the soccer player walked by them. It's one of the biggest waste of potential horror movies I've seen in a long time
>>691028599
Like the movie itself, the gif is a waste of time.
>>691010563
a classic!
>>691009253
>misses
you're not even old enough to know about this movie you lying fucking faggot.
suck a sand nigger dick and kill yourself
Candyman
>>691019631
That was fun to watch, good plot, weirdly funny in some ways
Kwaidan. Adaptation of four Japanese ghost stories from 1964.....not scary in the sense of most of the films here, but hypnotic and deeply unsettling with beautiful, weird set design. Saw it recently and it blew me away!
This fucked me the hell up when I was little
>>691024799
Doom wasn't that bad. It just doesn't belong in a god tier list.
>>691026256
Saw it, maybe it was just my high expectations but it was terrible. I liked the Hitler stepfather more than any other character. The plot was meh, I kept expecting the faun to actually be Satan but no such luck. And overall it just felt boring, granted I probably just have terrible taste. Also it's entire "mindfuck" of "Oh it was all a dream, it was all in her imagination" vs "No the magic was real" discussion/argument was really weak bait.
Pic related: not really horror, but it was enjoyable anyways.
>>691020738
god dammit am I the only one who didn't enjoy this movie?
>>691030542
doom was shit
>>691031020
Great movie
>>691031486
I watched it with some anons a while back. I enjoyed it, but for its horror hell no. It's premise was interesting and some scenes were decent, but it was mostly just jumpscares combined with 127 Hours with terrible characters.
>>691031486
It's not flawless, but I like the characters a lot and the idea that the protagonist killed all of her friends and the crawlers never existed due to her trauma. Shiiiit, the horror aspects are probably the blandest but it has great set design.
>>691023218
pretty good movie
>>691031870
That idea that it was all in her head was debunked by the director as well as made NO sense in the context of many scenes in that film.
>>691031528
K well I guess you win.
>>691032317
DUH, but it's a nice theory.
>>691010468
This is a pretty descent movie honestly.
The Possesion of Michael King
>>691032353
>>691009483
This didn't really feel like horror. More suspense, but still excellent.
>>691010264
I passionately hate this movie.
As a stand alone completely seperate from the book it's passing, but if you read the book it just turns the movie into garbage.
>>691032713
It was kind of horror. There were monsters and suspense. Maybe more of a thriller or sci-fi than horror.
>>691032496
Not really since it was completely and utterly implausible...a nice theory is actually a possibility to some extent.
>>691032713
watching it right now here
http://sync-video.com/r/raXIbptn
>>691033135
Well you're a fucking boring person.
>>691014309
I think a lot of what scared me in this movie was the sounds. The monster itself isn't that scary, but certain noises really unnerve me.
The part that made me turn it off because I was too scared was the "there's someone in the house" part.
I will say the end is a disappointment though.
>>691033235
Ayy, so am I.
http://putlocker.is/watch-jacobs-ladder-online-free-putlocker.html
Awesome taste displayed in this bread. Maybe not god tier, but I really liked this one. It's on Netflix.
>>691033871
Tried but couldn't get into it, the main bitch was so annoying I turned it off in the first 15 minutes.
>>691033673
I think the monster was a secondary antagonist. The real villain was her depression from losing her husband and raising a terrible child by herself.
>>691031020
Fucking hated those kids at the end. The world is about to explode unless the faggot dies so he chooses to cling to life for 5 more minutes
>>691033051
Accuracy to the source material is not an objective indicator of quality. Look at 1951's Thing From Another World, it has barely anything to do with the source material (Who Goes There) other than the fact that it's about an alien terrorizing a group of scientists, yet it was considered so good it was put into the national film registry.
>>691034132
Oh man... I would recommend trying again. If you watch a lot of horror I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
>>691016621
That chick is hot, any more pics?
>>691031020
Horrible fucking movie. I love Joss Whedon but it's simply impossible to defend that piece of shit movie.
Horror movies I recommend:
Session 9
Home Movie
Grave Encounters (just stop when there's one person left, the last five minutes are pretty dumb)
VHS
Rec
>>691034420
Zero character development and a crappy nonsensical plot are objective indicators of quality.
>>691034564
>It has near universal acclaim. I feel like you're trying to be a hipster right now.
>>691034420
Not to mention Kubrick and King had a huge fight over this movie and a lot of the changes are in there just to piss off King.
>>691015425
Excellent, even though it was made in a month and half its budget was taken away
>>691034687
> Session 9
This always gets recommended...WHY? Horrible acting, no scares or atmosphere of any kind and predictable as fuck...what's the big deal?
>>691033673
Pretty much. The more times I watch it the more I like it, I don't think it's a bad movie at all.
>>691034763
Yeah because Kubrick was the director. He could shit on celluloid and it'd get universal acclaim.
>>691023805
Easily the most fucked up movie I have ever watched
>>691034906
I think it's very good- it builds slowly, and few or no jump scares.
>>691034287
If there even was a monster. I've heard people say it was all in her head
I woulda liked it a lot more if it was just a standard monster movie and not some piss poor attempt at something "deeper"
>>691035021
Responded to the wrong thing. Nevermind.
>>691034420
I think if you're going to adapt something from a novel you should at least make it remotely close to the actual story.
And the movie isn't even all that well done to be honest.
Someday I hope they remake the movie and include the scene with the topiary animals. Fucking chilling man.
>>691034132
yeah the shrine was awesome
>>691034763
It's got a massive amount of plot holes.
What about the Conjuring or Insidious? I thought they were pretty good.
>>691013107
First one was amazing. You can not defend the second one. It's like saying the live action resident evils were good
>>691027220
the scene with the giant bell is absolutely genius. It gave me chills when they listened to the enhanced version and heard the screams
>>691015038
This
>>691035240
I think those people may have a point.
Her declining mental state only began after her sister told her their children wouldn't have combined birthdays.
The stress of that must have been her breaking point, because her mental state apparently begins to decline from there.
The closer it gets to the day, the worse it gets.
>>691035240
I mean this seriously.
Maybe it was hard for you to empathize with a single mother so it was hard for you to connect with the character? I have a 2 year old and I know what it's like to deal with a pissed off kid so that's where I think i connected.
>>691035349
The Conjuring is by far the most overrated horror film I know. It's not scary at all and it's beyond cheesy. Remember that scene near the end where the main guy calls out the villain's name near the end, you see her face and it looks less convincing than something Tom Savini would do in the 80s?

Conjouring one isn't bad. It had some descent scares like the hide and seek sequence. But the second movie sucks.
Insidious is total wack. The main freaking character goes out in an all-out UFC brawl with ghosts, which was pretty stupid
