They're cowards, they typically assault soft targets. No-gun zones and places where security is lax. It's normal warfare to strike where the enemy is weak, but take that into consideration. When death may be seconds away, authorities may take minutes to respond.
Always go for center of mass. Kevlar gets weakened by repeated shots, even with body armor they may go down, and you can finish them off. It'll at least give breathing room and allow for police to arrive with better gear. An example of body armor being used is the bank robbery a while back where they lasted so long they ended up killing themselves when they ran low on ammo, but typically these cunts aren't wearing armor. They're suicidal, and armor would give away their intention before they arrived at the target.
The reason you go for center of mass is to account for pulling the gun in various directions in your adrenaline-filled panic and to account for the "zero" of your gun. The points at which the bullet's path and the point of aim coincide is known as the "zero." "Combat Zeroes" are ones which place the point of impact as close as possible to the point of aim for as far a distance as possible, and most handguns used for concealed carry will have fixed sights with combat zeroes, which means it's not like CoD. Couches and drywall are concealment (they can't see you) but aren't cover (where they can't shoot you). Cover is going to be a thick concrete wall, book case, safe, some thick/metal/stone barriers such as engine block. AK's or AR15's or certainly pistols won't go through any of that. Regarding unarmed combat against an armed assailant, generally don't. If you're within a few steps, you can rush in, but if you do you HAVE TO COMMIT. Modern martial arts are all about getting the enemy off of you and getting back to your tools. Jihadists are typically not very professional, so they're more likely to brawl than perform martial arts.
Useful things to do when assaulting the enemy:
•Eject their magazine
•Make them fire and empty the magazine into a safe direction. WARNING: One or both of you may lose control of the weapon or break a finger doing this.
•Attack their arms. Stools and chairs are good, knives too. Hitting their hands or the gun might make them drop it.
•Attack their eyes. A fire extinguisher is pretty good for this and also makes it hard to breathe, plus you can hit them with it after.
IF YOU GAIN THE ADVANTAGE, PRESS IT. DO NOT MOVE UNTIL YOU HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY. If you do not have the confidence to attack, focus on evacuating yourself and others, prevent people from entering the area and get people out, but don't let someone hold you back either and get you both killed. Barricading in place is a valid tactic.
As for what will stop 7.62x39, it's a pretty good round for short range penetration, but lethal velocity may not be reached upon exiting the cover it punched through. The more solid the barrier, the better, of course, as it may flatten it and make it penetrate YOU less. Concealment is good as it may make them miss.
