B I really love my girlfriend but I'm also really broke so I asked my mother I'd she had a ring to give her so I can ask her to marry me. Mother give me ring. We are not rich so it was just a simple ring cost about 100 bucks. My girlfriend brought the ring to somehwere and they told her it's fake. I know a few people who have gotten engaged/married, and there always seems to be this thing where you spend 1 months wages on the engagement ring.
It's something you have to save up for, but it's not impossible.
The cost of the ring obviously reflects where you are in life right now.
I know one guy who got married, and his ring cost about UK£600. Now he's a manager (he's a middle management prick, but that's a different post) who can afford a lot more that £600.
But the ring reflects where they were when they got married. And she won't change it because it's her engagement ring.
I personally can't decide if 1 month is too much or not. OK, sure, if you love her you want her to have a nice ring. But it shouldn't totally be about the cost.
And also, a lot of people use rings passed down from their parents. I think that's worth more than a few pay cheques.
