Nope, The elevator car will easily reach terminal velocity in 3-4 floors (aka 150+ MPH) no fucking bumper is going to save your ass in that one. The video shown has the guy going up 6+ floors with what was easily a 5,000lb weight pulling him up, vs him + the car at around 900-1200lbs...
Simple answer, if an elevator breaks, modern versions have locking mechanisms that are supposed to engage and hold you still... But again, this was in chile... so fuck safety.
