I know a few people who did that irl other than my sister, and they all stopped with it after they found a way to cope with their depression better.

You should at least give it a shot. 50-75% of people will get better if they are severely depressed. (Which you clearly are)
Another thing to try would be MDMA (yeah the recreational drug), which also works on the serotonergic system. BUT you'd have to do that with a friend and you'd talk about _all_ the things. It's basically love and empathy in crystalline form and can help you find the real cause of your unwellbeing because you can look at yourself without all the fog. Very difficult to explain to somebody who never has done it, but maybe look into it.
I do that sometimes (2-4 times a year) and it always has helped me so so much. But do either the one thing, or the other. _NOT_ both.
So it depends if you are more of the recreational drug type or if you like therapist controlled medication better. It's up to you. But please do something.
