My take on it is that it is due to Western society being increasingly out of touch with nature. All we see are the docile tamed zoo animals, we think they are angels, we've never had to live in fear of these beasts. We are also unable to grasp the concept of a food chain anymore. "/b/" doesn't exist, there are a million different opinions floating around here. The fact that you try to put them together into two categories shows that you are in fact not able to compute informations seperately. So I'm gonna keep it simple, as you are probably around 16-18:
You have not proven your worth either. You are just leeching off your parents. Why do they keep you around? Because they like you. They feel "empathy". Empathy is a naturally occuring trait in intelligent animals, as it helps a species to survive. Humans always had a high level of empathy, which allowed them to survive and build houses in which teenagers can have a fit of anger, like you just did. Empathy is a subjective feeling, some just like the monkey and some blame the parents because they have a biased view of low class people.
There is no ultimate authority. Some people like monkeys simply because they are majestic. If they feel like housing one, or get angry when one is shot they have just as much justification for it as you have for favoring the human being.
There is no obvious yes/no answer, even though people your age try to find them. It's just a matter of subjective experience. I for one don't care either way, I just like the discussion.
