It's patently obvious, even from the first segment, that the new show is going to be shit. It reeks of insincerity, appealing to the lowest common denominator, and gimmickry. The first two segments are perfect examples. In the first one where they chase each other in a viper and corvette that the entire thing is staged, from every line and taunt between the presenters to the obviously staged manner in which they chase each other. Even worse than that though is that nothing even fucking happened. They chased each other for just fucking long enough for them to spit out some banter, and then it just suddenly stops because one of the pilots supposedly gets sick. The reliant robin roadtrip bullshit is guilty of the exact same shit. All they do is drive for a little bit, laugh and make contrived jokes about how matt's broke down, and then they get to wherever it was they were going. From the hosts to the segments its all flash and absolutely no substance and its going to be fucking awful. Thank god the original hosts are making a new show with amazon or one of the last genuinely and honestly entertaining shows would be lost to the sea of patently commercial cancer that makes up the rest of popular entertainment

I absolutely love Detectorists, it's not exactly laugh a minute but it has a really good mix of gentle comedy, eccentricity, melancholy and drama. Also shot beautifully and with a great soundtrack. Fingers crossed for a series 3.

Exactly - don't think enough people in the UK appreciate just how good the BBC is compared to equivalent public broadcasting services elsewhere, and how fucking great it is not to have a service propped up entirely by advertising revenue. The license fee thing is a contentious issue, especially in the digital age, but I still think the BBC is something to preserve however it ends up being funded.

Am I the only one who feels that the license fee is well worth it? The BBC provides excellent journalism and online content, has a brilliant back catalogue of radio and tv programmes and provides a good mix of niche and popular programmes for all demographics. I think it's appalling that this is being put in jeopardy by a government hell bent on destroying the public sector.
