I like Rick and Morty a good bit, but Venture Bros holds a place in my heart. Neither shows treat it's audience like idiots. Both are cleverly written. I think what separates them is Venture Bros has a better surrounding cast of characters, which makes the show feel around better.

Sure, Simpsons has more awards, TV ratings, fanbase, and is bigger but that is because it came out first and had time to build that. The Simpsons now sucks especially compared to Rick and Morty.
The Simpsons now was definitely the best in its day, but just like in everything the later generations learn what the past did and catches up. Shows like South Parks, Futurama, Archer, etc. can match what the Simpsons was. I don't think they pass it because the Simpsons in their day was that damn good.
