I see a lot of people saying the jar would weigh 1.5kg since the flies exert a downward dorce on the air, pushing down on the scale. The air, however has to go somewhere, right? Where does it go, then? It goes right to the top of the jar again, hits the lid. The lid then gets pushed upward and negates the 0.5kg force pushing down on the bottom of the jar. The real answer ia the flies wouldn't be able to fly at all. They get pushed down from the air stream in the jar. The only way they would be able to fly would be if they constantly accelerated their flapping to account for getting pushed down. Now I am no expert but it seems to me the jar would weigh 1kg. If any phtsicsfag cares to correct me, please do. I have none of the equations for this kind of stuff in front of me and none of the necessary experience to know any of this. I'm just speculating.
