Sci-fi is more of a setting than a genre. I'm having difficulty coming up with examples to the contrary.
>>
>>685387174
What sort of art do you make exactly, what is the artistic process that keeps you from being able to enjoy movies?
>>
>>685388014
The point I was making is that the basic story could have been told in many other settings. It was not dependent upon the sci-fi setting, but it didn't detract either.
>>
>>685388134

The genre part comes in when you examine the subject matter, most easily identified as speculative material dealing with science, it's advancement, the philosophy, and the settings it puts people in.

Also, this is why it lends itself well to comedy.
Sci-fi?
Dark Star
Phase IV
Zardoz
The Man Who Fell to Earth

you speak for everyone, can everybody confirm this? or are you looking for attention... pathetic..
>>
>>685392457
it's weird that it only applies to people and not film/art/music for you, how convenient

Cannibal the Musical
Gangs of New York
Dance of the Drunk Mantis
Battle Royal
Camp 731
Snake in the Eagle's Shadow

i can't think of anymore someone else do this

Whelp, this thread is officially up its own ass. Later guys

your the arrogant one claiming and categorizing tiers of movies for everyone.. you either like a movie or you don't. you can't decide for others, douche.

Just thinking about going to a new Wes Anderson film floods my gusset
>>
>>685392373
good movies in those, and many i have too look up
>>
>>685393371
you're

and to be quite honest the deficiency here is yours considering i didn't give any indication to whether or not i thought any of the films were binary good/bad, and to think that art operates in black and white is again your own shortcoming not mine

insults aren't flattering either

>The Cobbler
>Amityville Horror
>>
>>685393888
the truman show is really good
>>
>>685393888
Lord of War is a really polarizing film for me, as much as I love it's presentation, the way the movie eases you into the plot, and the overall idea, I just feel that it peters off towards the end with a predictable close.

However, The Truman Show is god-tier. Carrey at his best.
>>
>>6853924
when did i label movies?, i can like or not like everyone else, can't i? why does this have to be a debate? i couldnt care less what you like or not, i only asked people to give me good movie suggestion, but you have to detract so far as to imposing your views on everyone and talking shit if i don't think like you... how ordinary.. you know, i'm sorry for how I underestimated how I overestimated you in every way i can think of. even more sorry ever answering anything you said., but im done now.
>>
>>685394430
>why does this have to be a debate
Uh... B-Because you started arguing with our opinions?

>underestimated
>overestimated
Trying to find the right word to stroke your ego eh?

Comedy is acting just as much as any other genre, my friend. Literally one of the three principal dramatic forms in Greek theater.

>>685394807

Comedy is acting, slapstick is vaudevillle
>>
i think i have plenty of suggestion for today, thanks
>>
>>685395168
Have you never watched a Charlie Chaplin film? What about the Great Dictator?

What about The Comedy of Errors? That's shaking spears, bro.

Slapstick goes all the way back to Aristophanes, it's just different names.

the great dictator is fucking phenomenal
>>
>>685393888
i never liked any of the amityville movies, and they keep making a new one every year, i don't understand why they can't make a good one.

>>685396276
chaplin was great, modern times was my favorite
>>
>>685396224
Well, I hope I didn't offend. I tried to have discourse as politely as possible.

>>685396276
The contrast between the speech and the rest of the film sets such a tone for the entire film that I've never been able to get out of my head.
>>
>>685378362
Humphrey Bogart is right.
>>
>>685396667
That speech still gives me goosebumps, just seeing this guy who is normally so silly thrust into a roll like that, and then even he knows what is going on in the world is wrong. I love it
