I'm grabbing my first bike soon it'll be a new Yamaha 2016 YZF R125 ABS. Any of you guys ride? If so why? and what do you ride.
>>
>>685129709
Shouldn't you start with a cbr for experience? That is what I heard.
>>

Not too wild about the racer type bikes but the 125 is a great starter size bike. Hard to find anything under 500cc in the US.
>>
2008 Suzuki gsx650f. my first bike. Love it. A 125 is good to learn on but you're going to outgrow it fast. I'd pick something bigger, a 500cc or so. It's alot of money to buy a new bike then get tired of it after a year.
>>
>>685129790
its a 125 with about 15hp, its a fine bike to gain experience on.

I ride an old man bike BMW 1150rt
>>
>>685129709
ABS isn't good when starting to drive
Since your first bike doesn't have too much power, grab one without ABS or disable it
Best to improve without it and get a feeling for it, gives you better control over bikes and you learn more

First bike was a Suzuki GS500, good first bike. More recently had a 2008 YZF-R6, sold it when I moved. Shit was fast.

Honda VTX 1800. Literally the most powerful, comfortsble cruiser you can buy. I've taken this thing all over the south. She's been a wonderful memory maker.

Sure you can get "cooler" stuff from Harley or Yamaha these days, but my vtx is a minimalist experience. It's just you and the road.
>>
>>685130191
I understand what you mean. But the thing is I need to rack up experience on the road and you have to be 19 possibly 24 in the UK to ride bikes that fast.

>>
>>685130402
True, UK has different restrictions. In that case the 125 should serve you well until they let you ride something bigger.
>>
>>685130250
Second this riding in the rain and relying strictly on abs then get on another bike without it you're eating pavement

I wouldnt start on a 125, its almost more dangerous because it has ZERO power. Hardly can get out of its own way. Id say a ninja 250 or 500 would be the best starter bike.

You mean all women, and all men.
I ride a Hayabusa, and it's fun and all but commuting is a hazard.
People just flat out come into your lane, they do not see you because they just check their mirrors at best.

Op, if you plan to do highway time, a 125 is not adequate, like someone else said get at least a 250. Get it used, you will drop it. Plus in a year or so you can sell it for about what you paid and move up to something bigger.

I started on an 06 R6S, never ridden a bike before, but I knew how to hand clutch and shift from a blaster I had as a kid. I think it was perfect man. Enough power when you need to accel quickly, but not too much that will throw you off of it. Fuck I miss that thing. Best years of my life

I'm more of a cruiser guy myself.
First bike was a 2000 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500
some bitch hit me on that, totalled it.
Then I got a 2007 Harley Davidson Road King
traded that in then I got a 2013 Road Glide Ultra

Some riders have this whole cruiser vs. sport bike thing; not me. Fuck it man, if you ride, you ride. Scooter, sportbike, cruiser, touring, cafe racer - it's all good man.

This is my second bike though. Started on a street legal KTM. I'll always recommend dirt bikes as a first bike because you WILL drop it.

What's the difference in between a zx-6r and a ninja 650?

zx6r has an inline 4 engine, which makes way more power.
650r is a twin

Currently riding a scooter that I bought for simplicity going to work.

Now i'm set up I might either go to bigger geared bikes and do my test. People have been saying to just jump up to 600's.
Then again I could just go to gears, stick to 125's and get a car license.

Hi Op
I wouldn't go for this bike.
Driving position on a race bike is a pain in the ass (literally) specially in city environment.
A roadster is more comfortable, also you can adjust your trajectories which can be pretty useful.
Finally if you're not a speed demon, go for a 600cc, as you will get better brakes and also more horsepower to avoid dangers.
Good ride

The Korea would be a great starter bike for anyone looking into commuting and long distance travel. The 2 stroke 300 is by far the scariest bike I have ever ridden, throttle wheelies through 4th gear lol. Pic of my Duc.

The "don't start on anything above 200cc" is a meme to make you make a dumb purchase.

no fun? It's an 1100. Plenty fast and torquey. Plus, let's be honest. Half the guys with the sport bikes don't even come close to riding them at the level they should be ridden to justify purchasing them. I've seen way to many sport bikes with rear tire tread wear, right in the middle. Chicken strip is what it's called.

How does the "engine brake" (I don't know the name in english) work in a scooter if the speeds are automatic? If you brake, wouldn't the bike change to a lower speed?
>>
>>685142280
I think I'm gonna upgrade to a Fatboy after a couple years once I have more experience. My current concern is dumping the thing seeing as I have zero riding experience besides a handful of times on a dirtbike and in the US they give you an 8 hr course and send you on your way
>>
>>685142307
These scooters have a continuously variable transmission. Which means that there's no gears, it just keeps going faster and faster.

When you brake it just goes down, but you can feel the engine breaking when you stop speeding up.

I saying no fun about the bike, just your opinion on sport bike riders. Like, why do you care? They're often cheap, look cool, and are powerful. I've got a supersport and commute with it on the highway which means I don't lean much. Know what I'm saying?
>>
>>685130402
there are limited 500cc or 700cc bikes out there which can be limited so you can drive them with an A2 license. After you reach the requirements for a full A license, you can lift the restrictions
>>
>>685142003
Yeah, small bikes like mine aren't good in highways, but their low weigh makes them very fun in cities and mountain roads.

My bad. I'm from the Central Plains in the US.
Take a look at our highways and keep in mind that everyone hauls tons of ass on them, and you have to use the highway to get anywhere because everything is so spread out.
All the fucking roads are all fucking straight lines. 125cc is no fun.

Great bike. I had this one in driving school. Small, light, maneuverable, and still packs some power
