The problem is not that someone wants to be different, it's that they claim an identity in only the most superficial of ways. A man wants to be a woman, they IDENTIFY completely as a woman, "this is who I am", but the only thing they have to show for it is growing some fake tits, growing out their hair, putting on high heels and makeup. But, gender dysmorphia still exists and it effects people around that age. I think the best way to deal with it is to have open and verbose discussions with those children about these issues.
If kids are writing down those answers, they should have further discussions about it with trained professionals to clarify the point and to, if they really do have dysmorphia, find what treatment would be the best for them to pursue.

if anyone has ever done any mental health first aid training then one of the things that they drum into you is taht when dealing with people with delusions or hallucinations it is important to never ratify the patients belief in the delusion by acknowledging it as real. ie if a schizophrenia sufferer is freaking out in a shopping mall hallucinating about aliens on his roof that are going to shoot him, and you want to calm him down and get him to go inside then it might be tempring to engage with the hallucanation to get what you want, ie 'ok anon, lets go inside so that the aliens cant see you' ect, but this will remove the fragment of doubt in the sufferers mind about the experiance possibly being not real, once that goes then the patient doesn't know whats real or not anymore and is messed up even further.
