What setup do you guys recommend for cruising? No kicktail. If I wanted one I would just ride my skateboard. Also I don't really care about doing slides

I've got a Dusters Terra a little while back. My first board ever. Got it mainly for cruising and it suits my needs. I did get almost 100 Euros off though from this webshop so i quess i've got lucky.

So far no problems, a bit squeeky but it reliable so far.

Cruising = boards with flex
Boards with flex = pintails or kicktails.
What you are looking for is a freestyle/downhill-setup. You can definitely use them for cruising, but you don't have as good carving advantages as pin/kicktails.
I ride a lowrider freestyle setup, and it works pretty good for downhill, as well as casual cruising.
Here's something for you to consider: short wheelbase (wheelbase should be about the same length as the width of the board) = more carvy
long wheelbase = more stability
You generally don't find freestyle-boards with short wheelbase, and definitely won't find downhill boards with short wheelbase.
I would recommend something like Sector Nine board right there, but without the drop-through trucks.
Lowriders are pretty fun to. Mine carves pretty good, but I'm planning on changing everything but the board soon.
Pic related, my board. Check out Stella, they have tons of great freestyle-options.
>>
>>684155570
It's not the board-feel, longboards are way more fun if you're into it.
+ longboards stop wayyyyy faster, you can't beat the stopping distance with a bike or footbike.
>>
for cruising a double drop will be good, lowered platform makes for the easiest pushing
>>
>>684155898
True, but double-dropped boards typically has a hard time getting over curbs and similar obstacles. You can always throw on a riser, but then you remove some of the ease of pushing.
>>
>>684155878
it doesent even has brakes and you cant steer propably
i bet with "stopping" you mean jumping the fuck off of the board while the board hits the old grandma that wants to cross the street you wanted to stop for
>>
Longboards are for fags

jokes aside I like Landyachts
>>
I got a Yoacher Double Drop as my first board andnits great for cruising. I replaced my bearings with some Redds Bones, and it improved the board. My only problem with it is that since its so low to the ground, curbs and bumps can be a real bitch to the deck
>>
>>684156235
meh I never had a problem with that, if the wheels are big enough it. I much prefer my topmount freeride set up now though, so much more responsive.

>>684156281
not sure if b8. its easy to steer if you're not an invalid, and have you heard of footbraking/sliding?
>>
>>684156281
Kek, where to start
The steering is done with the full body, that's what makes it fun, and depending on your trucks and your preferences, you can get a pretty decent turn-radius.
The braking is typically done by foot at low speeds. Just imagine all your stopping power focused on one leg. Unless you're a weak neckbeard, that's no problem.
Stopping at high speeds is done with sliding. Where you put one hand to the ground, on hand holding the board, and feet placed almost perpendicular to the boards direction. You can go from 90 km/h to dead stop in less than 30 meters.
For you amerifats, that is 55 mp/h to dead stop in less than 100 feet. Good fucking luck doing that with a bike.
>>
Landyacht deck, paris trucks, bones reds bearings, and the wheels depends on if you want to slide or not. that my setup though anyway
>>
>>684156732
>not sure if b8. its easy to steer if you're not an invalid
not as easy as with a fucking steering gear
>have you heard of footbraking/sliding?
i thought you wanted to stop fast
>>
>>684156732
Maybe you're lucky with curbs and stuff in your area, in my area they're usually about 15-20cm tall. So it's a true pain in the ass with a double-drop.
>>
>>684156893
so you scrape your fucking hand over the floor for 30 metres?
for shure thats totally not retarded
>>
>>684156957

Not a bad setup, I'll admit
But soooo fucking common
>>
>>684155753
That Stella was my first board ever like 5 years ago.
Took it up to 43mph stable so not bad eh.
Had some flex and was super low. I set it up with a Bennett 5.0 in the front and dewedged Randal 125 rear.
Perfect push/pumper
Ran that setup in 2011 and 2012 Broadway Bomb

I've had it for about 5 years myself, I really love it!
I haven't measured it, but I'm sure I've broken 43 mph on it. The only thing I've done to it is change the bearings, the bushings and a shaped riser, to change the wheelbase. Did wonders, as I remember I had some harsh fights with speedwobbles in the beginning. Up until I bought that, I had only had cruisers tho. And even the boards I've bought later, I still prefer that one.

Long boarders are faggots that quit skateboarding when it doesn't work for them. They say they don't want to hurt them selfs and are scared of skateboarding. They don't persevere and man up to learn the tricks. Just giant fucking pussies. They ride down local hill that's like 15m long and not even so fucking steep. Yet they think they're totally fucking sick pros. And the worst of all, they use excuses for wearing safety gear. Everyone knows unless you're Tony Hawk and you're intending on going to a skatepark do to 360 double backflips. Don't wear safety gear, you're not vert skating or doing insane shit like massive stairs and grinds that would requite you to wear that amount of protection. If you fail the worst that can happen is that you can scrap your knee. So if you arrive at the skatepark in full gear and you start practicing your ollie, the whole fucking park is going to laugh at you. Conclusion, protection is gay. So long boarders say that long boarding is dangerous, so they wear protection. While in reality they're doing some baby hill and are just afraid to scrap there boo boo knee and go crying to mommy for a fucking bandaid. That just proves my point more at what humongous faggots they are. I don't know a single long boarder that's not a cringy beta.

What the fuck op.
Normal boards are best.
>>
Just got my first longboard a few days ago. Is there a way to slide without flatspotting my wheels?
>>
>>684161869
Get a better abec or even ceramic bearings.
That will reduce flat spots.
Or you could get shark-wheels, designed for sliding and maintaining momentum while sliding! Pretty expensive, and only one durometer, but worth it!
>>
>>684162242
>>684161869
i thought if you're sliding with proper technique so the wheels keep spinning then flatspots won't happen regardless of your gear?

sharkwheels come in 78 and 80a, ive got the 80 and cant say they slide much differently to normal wheels really. maybe a little easier to break into because of the curves
>>
>>684160289
in the insane possibility of this not being b8, if you can watch the skating in this
>>684158537
and say theyre scared of skating then youre a fucking mongoloid. longboarding is way more extreme than trick skating, most trick skaters dont wear helmets because they dont go nearly fast enough to necessitate it.
>>
>>684162619
Some people can't help their technique, but in theory, you are correct.
Really? I've only seen them in 78a, I never heard of SW in 80a!
The thing with shark wheels, is that the wheels should be able to spin in a forewards motion, no matter which angle the board is positioned, because of their shape. That will maintain speed or stability under a slide. Atleast in theory and on paper it is like that. Maybe you aren't using them correctly?

its called the mako formula i think, black ones. pretty sure im using them right lol, they definitely roll better over chunder but to me the supposed extra momentum isnt that noticeable. plus once you wear em down they go completely cylindrical, so you only have a 1-2cm of shark wheel until its a regular wheel. still they are a fun wheel

Didnt read but sector 9 is total garbage except for their wheels.

Trucks and bushings make more of a difference on freeride vs downhill vs street vs cruising so for cursing id strongly recommend Paris trucks and pretty much any deck you want depending on where you plan on riding it
>>
>>684166229
Shit, totally forgot to comment about the bail.
I feel you, had a nasty incident with an oncoming truck a few years ago. Had to jump off the board, slide on my bare back (t-shirt got ripped to shreds instantly) until I hit a tree and dislogded my shoulder and broke two ribs. Longboard bails are fucking though on ya.
The worst part was that the truck ran over my board.

>>684167711
The brand of trucks barely matters. What you want to look for is trucks that are about the same width of you board, and a baseplate-angle you think you will enjoy. For cruising, a high one is fine. Like 50-55 degrees. For downhill and sliding, use 40-45 degrees

Trucks and bushings are the the most important part of your board and make a bigger difference to how it feels than anything else. You should have bushings that are the shape and hardness for you.
