there's little nutrients in typical grasses and it would end up using a lot of your water to digest it for little to no benefit. If you don't have access to potable water, solar stills are a very good idea to pull water from plant matter or from salt water (if done correctly most of the salt will be left in the hole and regular water will be depositing into the container).
Watery fruits are helpful but if you eat too much of it you can get diarrhea which is counter productive.
It's ok to drink ocean water if you are very very very thirsty you will just shit out the extra salt.

a) put no hooks in at all - not using their legs to prevent the victim getting their hips free

If someone does it to you, if you can get your hips free you can push upwards towards their head with your body and flip over. If you can get one of your legs on top of theirs, you'll be able to twist your hips and flip over. Even if they're still holding on, you'll be able to breathe and it's pretty easy to get into a full mount from there
Should probably be noted that this is from my fairly limited experience in sparring and it probably won't be as nice and orderly if someone is choking you.
